Twice now I have witnessed coolant overflowing from the cap, gen was running for 200 hrs non stop with no overheat issue. This is what I found when I inspected, used 6 cups. Further investigation found the overflow outlet blocked. Hose and tank are clear, blockage is in the motor. Any ideas on how to clear? And the million $ question, is it blocked due to the overflow build up or is the overflow from the blockage? Thoughts? 12.5BTDB WESTERBEKE
Thank you

200 hours non-stop? Holy smokes.

But to your question - I'd clear the blockage by removing the hose and seeing if you can see it inside the nipple. Push the blockage out from inside the reservoir using a flexible cleaning brush or other tool that'll fit through the hole.

It surely looks like the overflow is caused by the blockage - coolant can't get into your overflow reservoir so it's being forced out around the cap.

It seems like this should be a moderately easy fix? If the blockage is in the actual hose - replace the hose.

I thought somewhere is reading my service manual there is a note to periodically clean the hole leading to the coolant recovery tank with a pipe cleaner.

I think thats an overflow from a blocked orifice or tube, and should be easily remedied.

200 continuous hours? Yikes! The manual for my new generator calls for a shutdown and check after 8 hours of use.

After looking at the picture ...... you need to get a new cap.

Looks like it's not sealing well or there's a leak at the hose connection.

Not to say there isn't a blockage but I would also check the cap. As I once had an overflow through an improperly secured cap. You probably know it's a 2 part mechanism to secure it... Push it down and then turn. If it's wobbly at all then it's not secured and locked.

Turns out that it is salt you see in the pic. So the culprit was the heat exchanger leaking and mixing salt water with coolant. Replaced, rinsed many times with salt away- they rinsed again. New hoses, cap, thermostat and heat exchanger and all is good. Thanks to all that took the time to respond~
