Cooling system / Cleaning - flushing -changing antifreeze! 600 hours Maintenance.
Hi all,
I will also post this in the "460" section however wanted to post hear for all the experts to lend some advice and tips. Also I did search the forms but did not find anything on this or specific to this.
Because of the location of the lake I am on it makes it hard to get service technicians that are qualified to do work or it cost a arm and leg to get them to come so most owners just learn how to do it ourselves. I have had many boats but this is my first with diesels and learning as I go.
This form has been great!
I have a 2001 460 with Cummings Diamond Performance B series sea water aftercooled coupled to ZF transmissions. 520 hours.
Boat has been in fresh water all its life " Lake Powell Utah".
This coming week I will be doing all filters, Oil change, Zincs, Racor fuel Service on both engines , Transmissions and Gen.
I am wanting to change the coolant as I do not know if it has ever been done. Looks pretty straight forward from the maintenance manual.
My question is...
What has been your experience doing this?
Pit falls I should know of?
Any tricks of the trade you have learned?
What type of coolant do you recommend?
Tricks on bleeding air from the system or things I should be aware of?
Should I start with beer or mixed drink?
Any help or advice you can share would be greatly appreciated.
Jim
