I am thinking of purchasing a 42 foot boat with twin Cummins diesel engines and a diesel generator.
How much can I expect to spend to have the engines and generator surveyed?
How much can I expect to spend to have the hull surveyed?

It’s fairly regional. Around here a hull surveyor would be 750-1000.00 and the engines about 750.00

I think I paid $950 +/- for the hull survey on my 400 a few years back. That's up here in the deep north...

In line with the comments above this is what i paid last year in Michigan: 510 DA
    haul out $10.00/ft
    Hull $18.00/ft
Engines/gen 150/hr plan on 4-8 hours depending on how far away your boat is from the nearest Cummins shop.

If a haul out is necessary it may make sense to pressure wash the bottom, clean/wax the hull sides, service the anodes, etc. All of which would need to be worked out with the current owner.

Be sure the surveyor is well recommened and you are shown past sample surveys. Some suryeors are very sloppy regardless of what organization they belong to. Higher cost does not always reflect quality.

Last year I got a 37 foot boat with single engine and generator surveyed in South Carolina. Survey was $1100. Haul out was ~$400. Engines were under warranty and performed well so were not inspected separately.

3 years ago I had a 34 foot boat surveyed in upper New York. That one was $1200. That surveyor did more, including thermal camera imaging and engine inspection.

Factor in costs for oil analysis as well. Figure $30/sample. You'll want samples on each engine, transmission (if present), and the generator.

Had a 44DB hauled in Pensacola Beach, FL. Hull survey was $850 and 2-Cummins Techs from Saunders were $1800 for the day. Had a 420DA hauled in Jacksonville, FL. Hull survey was $1,000 and Cummins Tech was $1,250.

I'm getting prices around $800 to survey a 39 ft boat. Plus travel if out of the close by area.

Owner had the engines done before survey, recieved reports and fluid sample lab results.

We also performed our own, very in depth inspection, family is comprised of elec and mech egineers and a machinist. That's always good. We picked up on alot of misses, errors, and ommisions on the surveyors part, disappointing. But no big stuff.

    Haul out-$500

    Survey-$1000, $100 off for cash.

Water trial on the broker. Twice-port turbo went out on the first one, we split replacement of both for the second one with the owner as part of the contract.

Just got back from a week on it and going back next week.

noticed on your profile you have a boat, now. Did you do a survey and were you happy with the surveyor? Whatever you pay for the survey you will get back in either a lowering of the selling price to fix a problem or ina good nights sleep knowing you bought a well maintained boat. Anyone you have do the survey is working for you and there will still be things that pop up that should have been seen or noted but there shouldn't be any big surprises. Don't hire the lowest priced surveyor and expect the top shelf survey. You get what you pay for.

The price of a proper survey = PRICELESS...

Do you research and find the right hull / mechanical surveyor in your area and also an experienced Cummins surveyor.
