coupling removale

I have a 2001 searay 41 ec with cummings I am trying to remove the dripless shaft seal . Is there a specail wrench or socket to remove the coupler nut I have tried every socket I can find its 1 7/8ths but they are so long canot fit between the trans and the coulper John

Funny you should ask this question, in my 33 express cruiser I have 1 1/2 shaft that’s held in by a nylock nut that takes 1 3/4 inch socket the problem is you have to shave down the socket so that it fits inside the coupler also take off a little meat at the end untill you can get a Ratchet on it or a socket cap

look up half inch socket cap, harbor freight sells it it has a bolt head on the end of it so you can use a box wrench to give you the ability when it’s a tight fit

it’s 2.2 inches dimension on the inside of the Coupler I had a friend use bench lathe to turn it down. Try and find a half inch drive 1 3/4 socket , don’t make the mistake I did by buying a 3/4 inch drive socket makes things way more difficult
