I just launched the boat and was testing out all systems.
When I turned on the AC panel breaker for the Air Conditioner, the Air conditioner went on. However; the SMXII control panel was reading 72 degrees in Heat Mode. The problem is that none of the buttons on the SMXII control are doing anything. I can't turn it off, switch to cool or get any other to button function. I looked up the troubleshooting guide and tried hitting the button combination for the factory reset. That had no effect.
I unplugged and replugged the SMXII Remote controller from the main unit under the forward berth ... that had no effect. The trouble shooting guide says to "borrow" a known working controller from another boat and swap it out. Really ... I can just picture that conversation. "Excuse me ... can I take your air conditioner controller off your saloon wall and test it on my boat? Are you "@##$#@$ NUTS!

Any thoughts / suggestions?
Thanks
Art

I saw a post on facebook under the Sea Ray Parts For Sale and WTB page for a used white one for $10 a couple days ago...

I've got a spare brand new SMXII keypad I should consider selling. But I'm sure my keypad will fail the moment I hit "send".

I bought the keypad a year ago before actually trying the unplug/plug trick. Turns out that was my solution.

The membrane/keypad runs $250+ new. Not cheap...but easy to remove if you have a dock neighbor that has the same unit. It's 2 minutes to take it off, max.

Flight systems rebuild these. Check out their website.

I had the same problem. The AC unit under the V-Berth was not communicating with the wall control unit. The AC will stay in the last mode before communications is lost. What you need to do is remove the panel from the wall (4 screws) and check the connections on the cable between the panel and the main AC unit. My problem was that the connections were slightly corrode. Clean the pins on the connection and try it again.

Those sheet style buttons wear over time, and the fix unfortunately is repladement. I got into this years ago on a 280da. You can trace the pins and jump it out the switch if you want to confirm before ordering.

Not to change the subject about Arts woes on the A/C controller.....but on the same topic.....Does anyone else show wrong temperatures on the controller? My controller constantly reads 10 degrees above normal. So if I want it to be 70 in the cabin, I have to set it at 60. It's been this way since we purchased the boat 4 years ago. My last boat was a new SR260 and it did exactly the same thing. I've cleaned the end of the temperature monitor device and I've done a reset at the controller but with a fastened regular room temperature thermometer right beside it, it reads 10 over. Anybody else ever see this?

you can calibrate the temp reading from the thermistor to the control display to be at or close to the actual room temp.....the procedure is in the manual....just need a thermometer to monitor the actual room temp.....I have done it but I don't remember the steps.....

The procedure is listed in flight systems website.

That's awesome. Thanks for the info. I have downloaded the Troubleshooting guide and put it on my iPad along with all of my other manuals. I will run thru it next time onboard.

Thx again.

I had a similar issue on my cockpit ac. Ended up taking the panel off and cleaning it with electronics cleaner then putting dielectric grease on the connections and reinstalling. Works perfect.
