Apologies for the cross-post from the 48DA thread, just hoping to get more eyes on this.

I started up one of my AC units and it would not generate heat. This led (from a bunch of peoples help) to either the reversing valve solenoid or a stuck reversing valve.

I tested the solenoid and found what I think is a weak magnetic pull.
My question is, how strong should that magnet be?

The unit is a Cruisair STX8C-410A 230V 8,000 btu
and the solenoid is a RANCO LDL-41

I hate throwing parts at an issue, but for ~$20 I am going to give it a try.

Thanks!

I have a 16k unit that is maybe 3-4 years old and the heat was never used. I also checked the solenoid and there is a magnetic pull there, but like you, not sure how strong it should be. Sometimes I can tap on the valve and it will reverse, but not frequently. Interested to see if this fixes your issue. Cruisair says if the reversing valve is constantly sticking, it will need to be replaced. If is about more cost effective to replace the whole freaking unit as mine is hell to get out.....please advise if when you change it out it fixes your issue.

Shaps,

When we tested the suspect one on my 410's aft unit, there was no pull at all. After replacing it (with a freebie used one from my AC guy), it really sucked the screwdriver in - so I would say it was a pretty good pull...

Will do @bbwhitejr
New solenoid comes friday (i hope) and we may need it this weekend... Fingers crossed this does it.

Edit:
@carterchapman
Thank you! Great info.

Where did you find just the solenoid? I ended up getting a used one from my CruisAir Tech - I never could find a new one online...

Welcome Carter.. Now all it has to do is fix the problem! Ha
Happy to help

That's a 240v solenoid, would that work on a 120v AC unit? I have a spare 12k btu cruiseair unit that the reversing valve stopped working and is stuck in cool mode. If this would fix it I would be really stoked. I too was told that it is an anchor but kept it for parts. (stupid question on my part, anyone know the 120v solenoid part number equivalent?). Thx Dan

Not sure @Cocktail Time, but I suspect it is different
My unit is 230V and that is the identical solenoid to what i currently have.
Should be pretty easy to chase down

Maybe this one?

Dan - On my 410, the solenoid looked like this:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1539189982...//swurl.com/?q=ranco%20240v%20solenoid%20coil

Ranco Solenoid Coil L30-42 / L30-420000-0HQ / L30-424801-000 9827 09

Well.. that was a bust.
Swapped out the solenoid. No change. Of course. Forgot my multimeter. So will debug another time.

I have a contact at Dometic that told me yesterday that the solenoids rarely get “weak.” He says they either create a magnetic pull or not…..

The tech support at dometic was super responsive. I will follow up with them once i have my meter with me and want to tackle it.
While I was hoping this was the issue, i knew it was unlikely but it was so cheap and easy i figured worth a try.
