Spring has sprung - summer is near!!!!!!

Its almost time for the CSR Northeast Flotilla and Summer Rendezvous 2019!

Plans for this years flotilla started to formulate at the awesome Winter Rendezvous in Pt Jeff, so far the plan is starting to take shape but is still a work in progress.

Goal is to finally get the flotilla headed to the Cape and the Islands. To start off we will be holding a Summer Rendezvous better know as "Feast of the East" in or around Shelter Island. The trip is planned as two weeks starting July 27th but as always boats will come and go as their plans fit.

Draft Itinerary is as follows:

The "BB" ports will probably be selected from a list of:

New Bedford
Marion
Onset

So far participants include the following but anyone is welcome to join:

Scott, thanks for getting a thread going on this. We'll try to catch a good part of the trip this year, maybe not Shelter, but hopefully BB and the Cape/Islands stops.

Thanks for putting this together. We will meet up with the group probably on Thursday 8/1 in VH and leave Sunday 8/4 in Hyannis. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

We will be starting off in shelter but our schedules differ a bit as we want to spend as much time as possible on MV and Nantucket. The crew is a huge fan of Cutty and Newport so those are on the list as well. Probably won't make the raft in MV but maybe we can visit.

To follow up on Dean's post, as Dean said, we are planning to maximize the time in MV and Nantucket. As of now we are planning to be on Nantucket, arriving Friday, August 2nd and staying until Monday morning, August 5th when we head over to Menemsha. I wanted to throw this out there and see if it sticks: Would all of you consider changing your itinerary a little to be in Nantucket at the same time we are? You could cut Vineyard Haven short by a day, travel to Nantucket, stay until Sunday or Monday then head to Hyannis for your planned two nights. You would have an open day to add another night in Hyannis or maybe use a night to meet us again in Cuttyhunk on Weds, August 7th. From Cuttyhunk, you would be a hop, skip and jump to BB. :)

Nothing personal, but I don't have the fondest memories of Vineyard Haven as that is where we ended up when my motor blew. In fact, I get a little twitch when I think of that place.;)

Wanted to let you think about this before any plans are finalized, yours or ours.

By the way, my repower is still a work in progress. I am still looking to get the boat home by Memorial Day for the Airshow. Fingers crossed.

Harold, certainly understand your reluctance to Vineyard Haven!

We choose Vineyard Haven because its one of the few spots we can raft together, that isn't possible in Edgartown or Nantucket.

We also split up MV and Nantucket on separate weeks so we could get two full days at each location as they are the main stops and not lump all the best spots into one big blob. That was one small part of last years trip that I think made a difference towards the end, the best spots were all lumped together at the beginning and left most of the second week not as exciting.

Can one of you send me your current plan, the one you just mentioned is quite different that the past ones I saw. Nothing is set in stone, based on current plans we really only need reservations for Nantucket.

We have a couple who may plan to drop off at some point on the second week.

They won’t allow a raft in the anchorage at Nantucket? There is a lot of space there. I am surprised they wouldn’t allow it.

I will clarify that a multi-boat raft in Nantucket would be risky. The anchorage area is heavily effected by tidal current so you would do a 360 every day. Having 3-5 anchors out is not going to be fun to retrieve!

Nantucket Moorings will allow two boats to raft but on a "case by case, weather dependent basis".

Edgartown again you can do a larger raft by anchor but there are members of the group that already have experienced the fun of the outside anchorage area in Edgartown and choose not to revisit it! Even if they did allow anchoring in Katama bay like they used to you have the same tidal issues that Nantucket has.

Edgartown does allow two boats per mooring.

I wasn’t thinking about the tides in Nantucket, makes sense. I agree with Edgartown. Outside is tough with anything other than a light SW and boat wakes are tough out there as well.

Well, for the first time since this flotilla has run our summer vacation matches with the plan.....so we may join as well. My 2 cents....Nantucket is an awesome place to visit BUT it isn’t a good option for a large group of boaters.

Couple of us booked our slip for Hyannis and mooring for Nantucket. It’s advised you do the same if your coming along.

Joe, Just to be sure what dates did you book at hyannis? The itinerary in the first post has a raft in Hyannis, has that changed?

Yes 8/3-8/5 I thought Scott said rafting in Hyannis could be sketchy so we went with Hyannis marina

26 days and counting....
Anyone else looking to join us? How about the feast in Shelter? Plenty of room left....
