We have number of people expressing an interested on doing the trip to Rye Playland. Let's have a dedicated thread on it and see if we can make the trip happen.

I just spoke to the dockmaster and would like to point out few facts to set proper expectations:

1. There's a small mooring field operating on the first come first serve basis. Knowing exact dates, I plan on communicating with the dockmaster and see if he can reserve the balls for us. There are only 5 mooring balls that can accommodate 50'ers and about 10+ that will take 35'ers. They expect to have total of 26-28 mooring balls.
2. I was told that on a calm night we will be allowed to raft two boats per mooring. However, the larger vessels (45-50'ers) can only have smaller boats tie up to them.
3. In case if we run out mooring balls, there are few options to anchor. There's limited room inside mooring field and quite a bit room outside. If the winds in our favor, then it will be no problem using outside anchorage area.

Outstanding questions:

1. What date are we looking at?
2. Who's interested in participating?

Any comments and/or questions are welcomed.

Cheers,
Alex.

Just a note, if the wind is not favorable, I would not suggest rafting on a mooring. We stayed here one night and I couldn't even bring the dinghy up to the back of the boat. The boat was pitching so bad, I was afraid the platform was going to come down and smash me in the head.

It's a great place for the kids though, and some of us adults too :)

They do have a free launch to come get you. It is run by the restaurant, so after the park we hit up the restaurant for dinner.

I am interested in doing a trip around for this. I have to work with the Admiral to get possible dates.
If the boat ends up pitching as bad as Greg said his boat was, I know for sure the Admiral is going to tell me to start the engines and get her the **** out of there!!

Yeah I'm with Harrold.. I don't know if wifey will be so happy with me

I'm up in the air

The night we stayed there last year it was flat calm not a breeze so you never know.. Don't let that discourage you

I couldn't tell kids vs. adults.

I'd say that we pick a date based on the weather. If we pick good weather weekend it would only make the experience so much better for everyone. The following day we could go across and raft some place like Oyster Bay.

Count us in!

is the 4th of July out of the question?

I don’t know about anybody else, but for us, available weekends are few and far between from now to the Flotilla. I would like to stay “local” for the 4[SUP]th[/SUP] so that we can see the fireworks at Jones Beach. P.S. Anyone is welcome to come join us.Off the top of my head, I know we have a Cub Scout camping trip the weekend of July 9[SUP]th[/SUP]. I also know we have various other “events” on the schedule.Let me talk to the Admiral and see what we can come up with.

July 4th is no good for me either.

BTW, if I recall, the Playland mooring is locked for July 4th. I didn't bother asking too much details as I know that number of people already have plans for the holiday.

We go across to Playland about every other Friday night. We don't stay over night, the Pachanga is not ideal for overnighting. Although, I've overnighted with the kids and we enjoyed it but the admiral, is not into overnight on it.

Playland is an easy ride for us being in Sea Cliff and my kids love going for the rides and they have fireworks on Friday nights which they like too. So I'd be up for meeting some of the local CSR members.

It's an easy ride from Huntington. I go over (almost) every other Friday. I'd be happy to meet up some time in between and you can follow me across.

As as a point of refrence, it's almost straight across from the harbor between Glen Cove and bayville.

Im in huntington and would be interested. How far of a ride is it?

Cool, thanks sounds good

Now ross is just word of mouth but me and the guys were talking about the two this past weekend and I think we're thinking of picking a date more towards the end of Aug? Alot of the groups already have there summer weekends planned out and can't for anything into there schedule.

Let me know what dates you figure out. I'm out of Huntington also. I think my 6 year old daughter might like it.

I'm just going to through this out there and c if it works for anybody. How about Aug 26 27 28?

I will check with the Admiral. By the way, Jimmy Buffett is at Jones Beach on Thursday, August 25th. Could be a good start for the trip.....raft-up in Zach's Thursday night for the show, then head out Friday morning.
