I'd be nervous about my dink hanging off the swim platform that much, especially in rough seas. Ever concerned?

Never an issue. The Hurley straps keep it tight to the Davit. I’ve had it in 4-5 footers with no issue. I did have a single trailing wave one time the pushed the dinghy out of the cradle but never off completely

Would you share the make/model of the worm gear winch you used?
    Thx, Doug

On my setup I decided to get a small "block and tackle" pulley setup with a lock cam. I attach a clip to the dinghy and then with one hand I can pull the relatively thin nylon line with one hand bit by bit. The cam keeps the line from reversing and dropping the dinghy back in and gives me plenty of time to adjust as need be before pulling it into position. The other end of the pulley setup is clipped to a stainless rail in the cockpit. Very easy to use and the pulleys allow you to quadruple your pulling force.

Precise-Positioning Hand Winches for Wire Rope—For Horizontal Pulling
    [IMG]
These winches move loads more gradually than standard hand winches. They take longer to wind but require less effort.

For wire rope, see Wire Rope with Hook for Winches.

Note: Capacity is highest for the first layer of rope (at least five wraps of rope on the winch) and decreases as each additional layer of rope is wound on the winch.

Those look more 'home made' than the extension offered by Hurley - Its a big pill to swallow to get the ones offered by Hurley - it's an additional $1500... not even sure if I need them for my 420 - but the idea of not being able to walk past the dink on the platform isn't appealing to me.
