Death statistics, how about some meaningful numbers?

I live in NY. I’m convinced that if I were to be run over by a bus tomorrow and succumbed to my injuries, Cuomo would somehow find a way to add me in to the COVID 19 count.
This state had serious financial problems before this thing hit.
Cuomo is a skilled politician who is playing this up as much as possible to get more federal dollars to burn.

You are probably right. Very few are dying from COVID-19.

I find this all very shocking. All of this crap is about the political GOP vs Dems deep division. Trump tries to convey that this is not so bad and that not many are dying. NY says that its way worse, but feels he needs to inflate the argument to take a shot at teh GOP. Both sides are probably twisting the truth. But people are dying from this.

GAAAWD you need to put political differences aside for a few months and focus on getting this virus contained so economies can get back to business.

In Canada we have a Liberal federal government and a very right wing conservative provincial government in Ontario and Quebec. But there has been virtually no political lines in the sand. Both sides are resolutely focused on the real enemy, the virus. The cooperation is inspiring. No doubt it is temporary. Here is an interesting article that is worth reading at least skimming. Chrystia Feeland is the deputy Prime Minister (not exaclty, but kind of the Veep of Canada, and a Liberal. Doug Ford has been called Canada's Trump.) They are as politically opposed as you can get.

So what about deaths from the Flu? Shouldn't we be shuttering business from october to March every year by that logic or do the 23,000 to 63,000 people who die from the flu every year not matter? Which is it?

CDC estimates* that, from October 1, 2019, through March 28, 2020, there have been:
39,000,000 – 55,000,000
flu illnesses

cough-icon.png

18,000,000 – 26,000,000
flu medical visits

doctor-patient-icon.png

400,000 – 730,000
flu hospitalizations

hospital-room-icon.png

24,000 – 63,000
flu deaths

I've read actually that the deaths annually attributed to flu have been traditionally lumped in with pneumonia deaths, not all caused by the flu. The CDC is in bed with big pharma pushing the vaccines and such. When the actual deaths directly attributed to seasonal flu are just a fraction of the CDC's total numbers. It all depends on who's numbers your looking at and believe. The truth I imagine is somewhere in the middle. As long as our society is run by humans instead of a logic based AI computer system the numbers will always be skewed to meet special interest's agendas.

2019 US deaths due to seasonal flu: 24,000-63,000. The “season” is basically winter.

Annual deaths in US from car accidents: 40,000

US abortions in 2017: 862,320.

COVID-19
2020 deaths thru 4 months of COVID 19 in US: 14,000.

Almost 50% of COVID deaths are in NYC.

Sure, let’s bankrupt the entire country by keeping the entire national economy closed.

No way in hell that happens.

American politicians, as a group, are the lowest form of life on the planet.

I agree, but the POTUS dosen’t quite
Fit in. He actually calls them out.
Naw. He said he was going to drain the swamp. Everyone knows that when you drain the swamp, the gators leave and the snakes move in.

As a man of your knowledge you should know that in a democracy it takes a while to do anything. If you disagree on him calling them out you are not watching the correct news feed.
I wouldn’t trade the USA for any place on this planet. Most others must feel this way since they are constantly trying to get in.

Everyone has their opinion, I personally am not willing to risk my life, my wifes life and my kids and their kids lives. I will err on the side of caution, and follow the guidelines put forth, This is not political, it is a reality we all must deal with and do the best we can.

I have to laugh at folks saying the Covid-19 stimulus program(s) amount to socialism. Why is giving people back their money socialism? There are those who get without paying in. That IS socialism.
Would you call it a bailout???

You need to understand there is a tipping point. Once that point is crossed government simply won't be able to help businesses survive, and banks will close up. Government produces nothing, and all of it's revenue is derived from taxes. Dramatically shrink the tax base and government has less to deal with.

Banks are businesses and not charities. Banks are not going to be issuing loans on high risk, and when they do, it's always to their advantage.

Once again, burning down the house to kill the spider is the wrong way to do it.
Banks have no desire to foreclose on homes or businesses right now. They are far better to ride this out as we are. Why would a bank want to enter into a foreclosure process while this is going one, they are far better to ride this out and make decisions once this pandemic is over. For the government its just debt whether we are 24 trillion or 28 trillion does it really matter we will never see the debt paid off in our grandchildren's life times.

The flu sees 45 to 60 million Americans get it if that many Americans get Covid-19 we will see millions die.

That’s it? That’s all you got? Weak.
Why would you say that. You believe President Trump was wrong to do what he did. The flu numbers are posted and over 45 million get the flu each year in a bad year 60 million.

Actually most deaths attributed to the Flu and to Covid are NOT from either but are due to complications that develop because of them usually due to underlying medical conditions. Pneumonia being one of those complications. But as you can see in this link, even those pneumonia deaths attributed to covid are not a large percentage.

You know.......funny you should say that.......I’ve felt the same way for my nearly 66 years. But honestly...........if Congress and the typical DC establishment doesn’t change I would be open to going to another country.

It’s not outside the realm of possibility that 45 to 60 million Americans have already had Covid-19.
From what they’re saying, many infected people have minor symptoms, or no symptoms at all.
They won’t begin to know, or reliably estimate, how many people have had it until they have a proven test for antibodies and it’s made widely available.

Exactly!
Pneumonia is a real killer.
Several years ago I commented to a family member who is a medical professional that it seems like a broken hip is a death sentence to many older people.
This relative told me that they usually die of pneumonia from the inactivity caused by the broken hip.
My motto: Keep moving until they’re throwing the dirt over you.
