I was a long time Directv customer and had an account with eight receivers, two being on my boat. I hated not having service in HD while away from the dock and tried Spectrum streaming service. They suck and they told me I could watch via their app on the boat, you cannot. I do have an IP streaming service subscription but wanted the reliability of something more like Directv.

Do any of you have Directv Stream and do you know if you can use it outside of your home/registered IP address? Maybe a VPN is needed? What do you think?

Hey Dan-I have looked at Direct TV Stream, but other than a few channels I do not need, I do not see it being any better than UTube TV. UTube is only $65/month and we can watch it on 3 devices at one time anywhere in the world. All you need is the internet....Since there is just my wife and I, I can watch football in the cockpit and she can watch HGTV in the cabin. For the last 6 months or so, it has been very dependable and no issues at all. Just my $0.02...

Thanks! I have tried YouTube TV and it was ok at best. We have a lot of TV's at home and several on the boat. The Stream deal says up to 20 devices which would be ideal. Several lake neighbors say they have it and it works both at home and on the boat at the same time. We just bought a 70" TV for the slip (I know it's ridiculous) but I couldn't pass it up.

YouTubeTV has been rock solid for me over the past couple of years (Playstation Vue prior to that). Of course it is going to be heavily reliant upon the quality of the internet connection, router and the streaming device. YTTV recently rolled out their 4K option which while I think 4K streaming is ridiculously impracticable they did also give you an unlimited number of streaming devices at home + 3 device outside.

After yet another Spectrum price increase, we just canned Tivo/Spectrum and switched to the DirectStream service a couple of months ago. I've installed the app on phones, ipads, and Amazon Firesticks, and it works well.

We went with DirectStream over the other services because they carry the History channel. A requirement the Admiral mandated because she has to be able to watch her Oak Island.

The DirectStream service says that I can use it on 20 devices, 2 of which are outside of the the home. You have to set your home location, likely so that DirectStream can geolocate your IP address. I have since traveled out of the area and was able to stream local channels and others on my phone.

There is a little lag when watching a channel on a bar TV and what is displaying on my phone.

The channel guide is a little cumbersome, but overall, we are very satisfied.

That seems to be the consensus. I'd like to watch the Braves games and they are Bally's which isn't on YouTube TV either.

It's definitely going to come down to the channel selection. History was one of the few I sacrificed - good to hear the boys are still looking for treasure. One big channel set here in the NY area is MSGs and DS carries it - although I do have a way to stream it outside YTTV. So for the time being I will save a little money and stay put.

I have Dish at the GA condo, and it comes with a sling box. The Dish Anywhere App works any where we have internet - Apple lightning to HDMI video cable connects to any TV anywhere...

OMG, I give the Admiral a ton of sh!t on why Oak Island is still a thing. I try to tell her how the NLP the narrator is spewing is affecting her judgement. Then I point out that they have been digging for sh!t for SEVEN FREAKING YEARS and haven't found SH!T. OK, they have found a couple items, were they planted?

"Could it be?..." That narrator must be loaded, he's on every damn show we turn on.

"Could it be ..."
"Is it possible ..."
"Experts agree ..."
"Scientists believe ..."

Those phrases set off my self-defense warning bells as I know that someone is attempting to knowingly manipulate my thoughts.
