This past fall I suspended my Directv account as I always do for the winter. When I logged on the reactivate my account I realized that they only turned my service off and did not suspend the auto-pay. That coupled with they auto-updated my service and started billing me even more! Apparently I pissed the sales guy off that kept calling trying to upgrade my service. Thats well over $400 now that they need to credit my account with, like that is going to happen. When I stopped the auto-pay that act would not allow the paperless billing to be turned off with out adding the auto-pay back. Now the dreaded phone call, so now after some 2 hrs and 5 transfers I spoke with someone who I thought actually fixed my problem and gave me the credit, imagine that! So I wait the week or so I told to and checked my account like he said I should do and the credit should be applied. The billing should stop and my service should be on hold as it was supposed to be originally. Nope! Now my account is locked and and I can only speak with collections. So now two hours later and two more phone calls and not only will they not stop billing me, I can't get the account fixed until the past due amount is paid, that is growing by $118 month after their upgrade, shouldn't be that much right? Wrong, the idiot that I spoke with originally billed me instead of crediting me. Now it's almost $1000 and I can't fix this. I can only cancel my service and deal with collections, I just don't have the patients to call them again and speak to another specialized moron! How the hell are they still in business!?
They are in business to collect money not service. Just like all the other mediums out there. Service is no longer a business purpose.
Yep... been there with them! Told them to cut the service off in Nov. They stalled the cut off till April even tho we called them every week. Then they turned me into collection, I appealed. They decided we couldn’t appeal. Keep great records, names, dates, times. We did and that they can’t fight.
I went thru bloody hell with DTV on the 44 and finally said to hell with it and just streamed via my hot spot Blah Blah Blah. Fast Forward to buying the 506, it came with an Intellian HD antenna that A PO paid dearly to install so I jump back in the shark tank with them. So far I have not had any issues once I got the system configured and working. I don't dare try to make any adjustments to the service. One thing I learned was to never call ATT DTV, I call the independent vendor and get to talk to the same tech/sales guy every time. Same price as ATT/DTV but way better service. Carpe Diem
This is exactly why no one outside of me has access to the bank accounts. I would rather me hold my money and have them justify their errors. I have no issues spending a bit more time to write the monthly checks or manually authorizing each of the Bill Pay activities. My friend had the water company on "auto-pay" and they made an accounting error and debited her checking account over $2000 for one month of water use; this was about a year ago and they still haven't reconciled with her... She doesn't have a lot and is having to get legal help; it's sad.
Yeah I used Solid Signal to get things setup originally, just needed an updated receiver and card. That was painless. unfortunately the only way to suspend your account for the winter is to call DTV, at least that's the way it was when I sub'd and haven't tried using them since. Perhaps a call is in order.
I could not agree with you more, now only if my wife the CPA agreed with you ... She pays that through her Bis. for the write off but comes out of the Joint account ... Very sorry to hear about your friend hope she can get it worked out. The moral of the story is to NEVER, EVER use autopay ...
Our gas bill in the summer is about $50/month on auto pay.... then one month was $500 we complained and they said they had been estimating then read it and that’s why $500.... next month the bill was $700... long story short we got them to come out and look at the meter...I was home and watched him ...when he took the meter apart all the hands on the dials fell off...he said first time he has seen that...they reduced the bill by $800.... just enough to not make hiring a lawyer worth while
Isn't that always the way they think. Glad you got that rectified. Glad I put the cellular modem in this past fall. The WiFi only would not have cut it.
Exactly, They were a great company and support was awesome. Now they are under the AT&T umbrella of idiots!
I wonder how starlink will effect direct tv etc. they are in the mobile/ RV world right now. I like competition it lowers prices and seems to improve customer service.
Hate hearing this story - as we will drop DirectTV at some point in the future. One of the benefits of Satellite is you can watch TV anywhere - right? Wrong! We had the boat outside of our normal south Florida coverage area for 6 months. Every time I was on the boat I was on the phone with Direct TV, trying to change my viewing location. It was miserable - they could not get the concept that our device was mobile. Previously I had DishTV, they at least had an RV group, if you could get to that group they understood. Their answer was always, they needed to send an installer out to hook up the equipment. Will be glad when we leave them...
Joe - I just saw a presentation that they have applied with the FCC to increase their # of receivers to 5 million and they also applied for mobile/RV approval. They showed a 40' (or so) yacht in their presentation.
I’m onboard with that I never even activated our dish due to the nightmare of setting it up stories.anxious to see starlink.
Yeah, I am very glad I have have the pepLink cellular modem now. We also have YouTubeTv through that. Also excited to see what comes of the starlink sat's as well.
