I installed a set in the summer of '21 and (to the best of my knowledge) they're still working. Keep in mind; I have very few hours on mine since then, so probably not the bet data point. And, I can't argue with @scoflaw's logic. Since the bellhousing has to be pulled to effect a change-out, that's definitely something to consider.

If it lasts a year or so and you have to replace it again... did you really save anything?

There are times where it's fine to go non-OEM - but I wouldn't do it here. Not worth the headache for a "re-do".

I replaced just the guts of mine with a quicksilver part from Amazon. No need to re-wire or pull drive, just take out the 2 set screws that hold the puck on, and replace the metal parts inside. They were still working 4 years later when I sold the boat.

I appreciate the replies. I have owned the boat 2 yrs now, and the person i bought it from,( who is also a friend of mine, and owned the boat since it was 3 yrs old) said they never worked right, and he never replaced em. i figured instead of testing and going through the system, i would just replace the whole thing while i replace the gimball bearing on the port motor, and naturally because i have twins its 2 of everything so might as well do the other on
