Don't bite the hand that feeds you...

I sure wouldn't want to try to live on even $15/hr. Put some numbers to it...how far can it go, housing, food, clothing, transportation. Not far enough, that's why 10% of current full time workers and 25% of current part time workers have to use social programs to get by.

In the end as taxpayers have we subsidized an Amazon and reduced it's labor costs? Is that OK or not? Would Amazon still be what it is either way?

I agree. We (both sides of the border) are paying for it one way or the other. I would rather know that the extra couple bucks an hour is going to those that are working, and not paying for people to not work. Maybe working full time in retail or fast food is a way for someone to make a living and get some basic benefits and stay out of crime or poverty. I think we all win and we would be very clear on where our costs are going. We would see them earning it.

Then on the flip side you will still have those that would rather earn a dishonest living by stealing or dealing drugs no matter what the minimum wage is

I came up with a solution to the problem of too many people doing drugs, stealing to support their habit, drug dealers, car thieves and all sorts of other miscreants.

All the gubmint would need to do is get about 500 acres out in the desert and fence it off so nobody could get out. Fill it every week with people found guilty of being a repeat felon and put them in.

Toss in one gun and an unlimited amount of ammo for the gun.

Winner take all.

Csnt agree unfortunately as many felony offenses on the books in various states are beyond ridiculous though for violent offences I can see how you would feel that way. Just read a story about a bill , I think in Ohio that would make any doctor guilty if murder for failing to implant an embryo in the womb in cases if ectopic pregnancies. The obgyn's all agree we dont have the tech or skill to even do that
