In the next few weeks we’re taking the boat to door county. We’re launching the boat in Sturgeon bay and circumnavigating the peninsula. Does anyone have recommendations on the best paces to stop. Good beaches to check out and good places to anchor for the night?

I'm surprised you haven't had any responses to this! This sounds like an awesome trip. I've never been further north than Sturgeon Bay on your side of the lake so I can't be of too much help. But we really enjoyed our time there. We met some locals that suggested Egg Harbor is a "must stop". It was one of their favorite spots. They also hit up Sister Bay quite a bit.

Will you stay in Sturgeon Bay for a bit? They have a lot of really great places to stop for a drink, meal, etc.

We’re just going to launch the boat in Sturgeon Bay and we’ll be off. I’m hoping to find some nice bays where we can anchor for the night. About 5 years ago we launched the boat in Sturgeon Bay and cruised up the Green Bay side and went around Washington and Rock island. It was beautiful but extremely rough for the entire time we were out there.

The Alibi, F all bases. ish Creek, Thia will be your beast bet to cover all. The town itself has all the resturants and shops you will ever need. Just a short ride across to Chambers Island will cover your beach dreams. Also check out Horseshoe Island and the bay in pennisula state park. Enjoy!

We always enjoy Fish Creek.

We did Door County several years ago. We crossed Lake Michigan from Ludington and docked in Sturgeon Bay and rented a car there. One day we toured the Green Bay coast and enjoyed the fish boil in Fish Creek, and stopped in Egg Harbor, Sister Bay and up to Gills Rock. The next day we toured the Lake Michigan coast and Cana Island, Cove Point and Bailey's Harbor. We experienced much more of the peninsula than had we tried to see the area by boat. I seem to remember the Lake Michigan coast to be less boater friendly and more rugged than the touristy Green Bay coastline.

How did I miss this? Maggie, if you do it this year, let me know. I have too much info for you. M

We are doing this trip in June crossing from St Joseph, MI providing everything has opened back up. We are starting in Sturgeon Bay. Do you think it’s better to rent a car or loop by water? Where should we stay in Sturgeon Bay?

Wisconsin is open. It depends on what you care to see, and how fast. A car will certainly allow you see more of DC and faster. There is quite a bit you won't see by boat. BUT, if you hit Egg Harbor, Fish Creek and Sister Bay on the Green Bay side, you've seen a lot of DC and can walk to most highlights. We have actually never stayed on the Michigan side at any marinas, but WhiteFish Beach is our favorite place to hang out for a day depending on wind direction.

Sturgeon Bay: Harbor Club marina is a more "hip" marina with bands on weekends and a good restaurant/bar at the marina and more restaurants within walking distance. A pool is available at the condos next door. Quarterdeck (the other Skipperbuds marina) has its own pool, but nothing in walking distance. Centerpointe is a very nice marina with a pool, and within walking distance to town, just a little more laid back and quiet.

If you want more info, let me know. We stay at Harbor Club. Mike
