Essex / middle river mechanic

Parts all good, almost done, should be done tomorrow by noon. New valve for zodiac going in tomorrow. 3 weeks both broke, hopefully it ends tomorrow. Then I can experience the ‘covid boaters’ you all talking about.

I dont know if any you got a 7.4 but let me inform you. That piece, the big hunk of metal that holds the thermostat and has the nipples for the heat exchanger, that one? $480 from Mercruiser. And ain’t getting aftermarket. Mine was a rusted pos and done.

Almost half the price of a fresh water system... Just saying.

Contrary to ideas, the upper Chesapeake contains very little salt, you can drink it. Well not should but can. Its really not saltwater boating. Now down by Virginia that’s a different story.

Well after a month we may have this done tomorrow. He flushed the engine and said a lot of 30yo crude came out. All clean inside now. So far replaced intake manifold gaskets, thermostat and housing, temp sensor, oil sensor, and a couple hoses. Next up, find and fix the mysterious leak in port tube of zodiac.

Still at land bar, this thing he called a diverter valve. Needs a shop to get out old housing into new housing, found a shop open today to heat up old and remove (pressed in?). Maybe tomorrow. This is really getting old.

It’s finished! 1 month, 2 days. Replaced intake gaskets, thermostat, housing, gave the block a full day enema, it’s done. Just in time for Elsa to arrive for 2 more days. Gonna spend weekend testing local, to be sure, then pick up with our trip next weekend that started this all.

So much for 1 hr to replace gaskets!

What was that diverter valve piece? I think that's the first time I've ever seen that before?

Wish i could say not sure. Maybe some here knows.
Ya, it turned out to be a lot more than planned including some parts wrong, had to be reordered, many lost days waiting on those, the heat was killing the poor guy some days.
The block is all cleaned out. Had many pieces of broken impeller pieces in it that accumulated over the years.

Well. One-more-day again, Thursday my guy said he wanted to reset timing (after pulling distributor), and change the 2 temp sensors to match the increased thermostat (we went from 145 to 160). But his car had problem. So one more day. I have the patience of Job, but cmon man! Another weekend gone.

Tells me at 6 this morn, he will do, now 2pm Sunday. Not done. Another weekend shot. I am sooo sick of this. Anyone want want a REALLY nice 91 250, new interior, fully recon 454 with 560 hours. And a bazilion replaced systems like new Vhf, all fresh water system components, new hot water heater, new top canvas, camper, cockpit cover, batteries, charger, fixtures, fortress anchor and tackle, let me know. I am FKN DONE. Includes a rest of year slip fee. Fun is gone. Have all record of upgrades and maint. Just did manifolds, risers, flappers, all.

The boat is finished. Thank god. I also have had a very hard start since i bought it, thought it was bad choke.
After replacing the intake gaskets, he reset timing, and messed with the air mixture on the carb and now 1 throttle pump, turn key, fires up.
The trim tabs, prop, water line are all covered in fur so this boat needs a serious on plane run for a while to clean.
Maybe tomorrow.

My slip neighbor has a 250 like yours except a little newer .... maybe late 90s? It has the oval side windows. Same color scheme and canvas though.

It's been in the water since May but I noticed the outdrive and trim tabs get gunked up like crazy. There's no swim platform so the other day I saw her go out there and brush it off with a broom :D

Also the top of the outdrive is visible above the waterline: is that normal?

I could do that, but now i have excuse “Honey, we must run the boat to get that fur off, I know you understand”.
Ya outdrive. Blow up attached pic. Its half out of water.
