Hey Guys,

I have installed a extra bilge pump (Jabsco utility 2000). Now I must connect a hose to put the water outside the boat.
What is the best thing I can do. Drill a new hole in the hull or use a existing one?

I have for example also a hand bilge pump on my 240DA. I never used it.

Is it wise to use that one or do you guys say,,,,stay away from the hand bilge and drill a new hole?

Thanks,

Marco

What reason do you need an extra bilge pump for? I assume there is a specific reason but just curious to hear why it's needed. If it's replacing a failed pump, use the existing outlet.

I wouldn't get rid of the manual bilge pump. That's a nice feature to have "just in case".

Also, don't share the new pumps output with any existing pumps. Their output would be diminished. Go ahead and cut a new hole for the new pump.

Dennis, I am really surprised to hear you suggest cutting another hole. Not that it would be all that tough, but If it were me I would use the drain hole in place for the self bailing cockpit. We don't yet know if the OP has that (or any other) option available.

Holes don't necessarily have to be a bad thing. Sure, you could tie into a self-draining cockpit hose (I forget if that boat has that feature, although I think "yes"?) with a T-connector sized to go from the 1-1/2" cockpit drain (I believe that's the size) to the 1-1/8" bilge pump. I can't imagine a situation (realistic) where the two things would be competing. But for me - I would rather just punch a new hole. Done correctly, it wouldn't worry me in the least bit. Simple and straight forward.

The extra bilge pump is "just in case" . You here a lot of problems with the standard bilge pump (rule) with the sensor.
So I made a own system with some electronics (PLC driven) with its own sensor. The system will also send me a tekst message when there is water in the bilge (also sending me weekly a message with the voltage, status etc. I will make a new topic of that system)

Hmm...maybe leaving the hand bilge pump intact. What about the two self draining hole in my engine hatch?
I have at both sides a (left en right) a drain with a separat hole. Maybe connect the both sides to one hose and use the another one for the new bilge pump?

If you want to go that route, using the self draining hoses, I would just T the bilge pump into one of them. I don't see the need to take any extra steps here. However, if you really want to "play it safe", then keep the two self drains as they are and install a dedicated hose/thru-hull for the new bilge pump.
