F’ing MD weather!

There is one thing I think I am missing out on by having never lived up in that neck of the woods. If I lived up there, I could wear one of those cool furry hats with the mudflaps on the sides. Talk about fashion!

I have 2 of those, lined with rabbit fur. Very warm. Bonus: my wife hates them.

Yup,
Boat is still in winter mode, will stay that way for about a month. Meanwhile, the heat is on at the bar and the beers are cold. In no hurry.
Shrink wrap and a bit of sun makes for a decent work environment. I've been working on my inlaw's boat for about a month.

Especially when you have to go out to empty the head.

@scooper321 I was at my new to me boat on Saturday for the first time, looks like our boats are close, at least physically :)

I left before the winds came though it was quite windy while I was there. I am not concerned about the 2 days of cold night temps, not cold enough long enough IMHO to freeze anything, especially with the sun beating on them all day.

Folks forget boats are made out of fiberglass, the same stuff we use to insulate our homes. That coupled with sunshine and you are fine.

Didn’t you post a pic of your boat sitting on the bottom and no water?….. same place? I am not sure that place and me would get along
Yup, that was him, I know his marina well and how these creeks can quickly empty.

That was from 2018. But it’s ok, that was a 420. I have a 48 now.

Yes, still at the same marina. I’m in a different slip with the 48. This morning was the lowest water. We measured the depth in my slip right at 4 feet. I figure the rudders and maybe the prop tips were tickling the mud. We have a very soft, muddy bottom here. And no rocks.

Yeah, I wasn’t worried about the boat too much. The HVAC and engines will be fine. The fresh water system is what I was more worried about. Those are small pipes! But it would take a lot to cause any issue. Even if there was a little freezing it would just expand up and down the PVC pipes. Only a hard freeze of several days would pose a problem for joints and the pipes themselves. Nevertheless, the heaters were put back in and have been running since sunset yesterday. One more night of freezing temps and we are done! You can hold me to that! :)

Update your profile with the new boat!

I am sure the benefits out weigh the negatives…. But damn ….big investment to worry about…

There is about 25-30 minutes of no wake to get out of the Occoquan but it is well protected.

Do you not get mud stuck up in your thru-hulls when this happens? Man...that is a very unsettling picture!

I know his marina/area well. Yes, it's unsettling but like he said it's a soft/mud bottom. And when my boat was stuck in the shallow water I did not run any engine/system so no mud was sucked up.

This area is unlike any area I have ever boated in. Literally in minutes a storm whips up and sucks the water out of the creeks. Happened to me the first time I went out in a boat in that area. I had no idea/clue.

That year when I performed my Spring Commissioning, I used my Shop Vac and Sea Flush adapter to blow air back through the thru-hull to ensure no blockage.
