can anyone recommend a "come to you" fiberglass repair company on the island? Have some chips and scratches in the swim platform that I would like repaired. what would I use if I wanted to tackle it myself? Ive done some body work on autos in past.

thanks

If it's just chips in the gelcoat and you want to do it yourself, look into one of the Spectrum patch kits. They make gelcoat repair kits in SeaRay colors. I patched a few scratches on my boat - 2-4" long, very easy especially if you have done other body work. Mix, apply, sand, wet sand, polish - done. Now I even have trouble finding the repair. Now, if the damage is deeper and requires actual fiberglass repair, that's a little bigger job that you may not want to DIY.

Yep, call SeaRay support with HIN and they will be able to reference the paint code for the gel coat. This code will be given to Spectrum who will cross-reference their items. I have done this several times. If other than that it is pretty straight forward. Clean out the chips with a file or dremel and expand wide. Clean and prep with Acetone. Prep small amounts of gel coat (or use the repair kit). With gelcoat build up slowly using multiple layer. Wax or a PVA spray during the last layer only. Sand down, getting progressively finer to wet sand - I usually go to 1000g then go to a scratch removing compound like buff magic. On white/off-white you will barely see it.

If you have questions let me know - I am on LI too so PM me if you want to discuss.

thanks for the info-where in LI are u? I will take pics. Somone said use formula 27??

We boat out of Wantagh, where are you? I think the formula 27 is a filler if you had to build up a deep hole.
