First time I changed oil myself on the 2006 Sea Ray 200 Select with 4.3 MPI. I changed all fluids when I winterized it and I also cleaned the breather/flame arrestor which was really nasty. I used K&N cleaner on it.
I assumed that I just pull out the drain plug and then undo the brass plug on the hose...WRONG! No oil at all came out. I used some weed eater line to try and unclog it, some came out, then I went with a vacuum contraption to get it out. I assume that when paying the shop to do it they use a pump to pull it out the top. So after many years of this any sediment etc was left in the bottom of the pan and clogged the drain line. I plan on running it next spring and maybe an additive to help break it up.
Has anyone else had issues with the oil drain hose and What would you recommend?

It drains very slowly when the oil is warm. If the oil is cold, even slower. If the drain hose has never been used, there will be thick oil and or sludge in there.

a shot of compressed air into the hose could clear it but then you’ll have that crap in the oil pan.

You could unscrew the hose if you have access, but that could make a mess in the bilge.

A vacuum pump on the dipstick tube is probably your best bet and suck it out from above.

I've been using this thing every season and never touch the hose they attached to the pan that comes out of the drain plug. I'm afraid that hose is going to split. If I ever get access, i'll probably remove that hose and add a proper plug.

That hose drains so slow it’s not with using. Pump it out.

That topsider is the ultimate oil pump.... I have bought that unit as Christmas presents for guy friends... great for everything in the garage.... lawnmowers, snowblowers, generators, small outboards... I just love the thing.

I am a huge fan of the drain hose.... what could be easier and get the sediment out of the bottom of the pan?.... get a lawn chair and a six pack and change your oil....how does it get better then that ?

I like the drain hose to. I used to just put both the hoses on my 280DA into a 5gal pail and come back the next day to finish the oil change.

You must run the engine to warm up the oil, regardless of method. The vacuum pumps work well, and you can use them on the drain hose if you prefer it over the dipstick.

Just did mine the other day....Drain plugged worked great albeit very slow however the filter was another story ! Whoever put the last filter on it must have used an Impact gun !! Finally crushed it enough to get large channel locks around the beast and remove it

I change the oil as soon as I finish a long run. I let it drain for perhaps an hour or until no more oil come out. By then the engine is cool enough to be around. I use strait 40# oil; if it is not hot it does not drain. With generator I use 10/30 and it just needs to be warm. Oil on stern drives takes a long time let it drain unit it stops dripping. As some one once told me the government does not pay me much to drink beer. Oil change is a 2 beer job.
I have not done it on the boat but on a car. Put in one QT of ATF to "Clean oil system" I did it because I had TAPPING VALVE LIFTER. It worked. No idea if it would clean out your oil system. I would not do it on a boat engine unless others have tried it and they had positive results.
