Hey guys. Just bought my first boat. 1980 270 sedan bridge with twin 470’s. Actually had it about a month. Any helpful advice and knowledge about this boat is more than welcomed lol. I really excited about owning a Sea Ray. Got it so me and my kids can spend the summer at the lake.

Congratulations and Welcome to CSR! That's a great looking boat, and a lot of power to go with it! I had a 1980 260 with a single 350 and wished I had twins!

Being a first time boat owner, there can be many things to read up on. Making sure that she's ready for the water is probably the best place to start -- batteries, fuel, engines & outdrives. Did you get an opportunity for a sea trial to see how she runs? Let us know if you need help in a specific area, or if its better to start from the ground up.

Where do you plan on taking her? Signing up for a tow package can be the best peace of mind you can buy. Being a part of Boat US and having a Tow Boat US towing package, which covers your boat while you're out on the water, plus the truck/trailer while your getting to/from the ramp can pay for itself in an instant.

Thanks. I didn’t get a chance to put it in the water before purchase. It was still winterized when I was looking at it. The previous owner said it was ready for the water, so I took his word on it. And I thought it was a good deal, even if it needed some work. Which it does lol. I’m currently working on replacing the camshaft seal in the port side engine. That’s about the only thing it really needed. I’ve learned a lot about boats over the last month or so. Thankful for info posted on this site, and others.
I live here in Arkansas, and I’m going to get a spot on Lake Ouachita.

Welcome to CSR and boat ownership.

Welcome to Club SR - there is an enormous amount of info here. If you cannot find what you are looking for - just ask. Pictures of your project help greatly and be specific. I have had boats for 40 years but have learned so much since being a member when we got our first SR 4 years ago.

Welcome, and don't be bashful. How about sharing some more info on where you live, what waters you will be boating on, and pics from your boating journeys.

One additional thought--have you taken a boater safety course yet? If not, your state may require it. Even if it doesn't I'd check around to see who offers one in a classroom setting. There's a lot to be learned from the exchange of information between boaters in your immediate area. Much better than taking it online IMHO.

Congrats and welcome to CSR. Nice looking boat and will be looking for your feedback as you lean about keeping the old girl going....
