During a recent check under my dizzy cap I noticed quite a lot of moisture and corrosion. The engine was hard to start so I replaced the cap and rotor.

Then I had a brainwave.... I was taking my morning dose of pills and when the silica gel moisture absorbent cylinder rolled into my hand, I wondered if i could fit a couple of these inside the dizzy. I don't have points and It works out you can so I siliconed 2 of these to the base under the rotor.

It's early days but after a couple of outings I'm happy to report the engine starts and runs better. If the silica can absorb any moisture maybe it will stay running better and help the dizzy and rotor to last longer. I'll have another look after the summer and let you know the outcome.

Please let me know your thoughts and if anyone else has done this?

Well my initial thoughts (playing the devils advocate) is, what if it comes loose and falls into the spinning contacts area? Your motor will die and you will have a big problem on the water.

Yes that was my only concern.....I tried to lift them out once the RTV was set and they aren't going anywhere in a hurry. Hopefully high temp RTV should be ok.
