So I closed on my boat today. Buyer fueled it up and I'm planning on delivering it tomorrow. Final destination is Southwinds Marina 362 East Lacey Road Forked River, NJ 08731. Anybody on here familiar with the area? What inlet would you recommend? Are bouys still in the water? (They remove them by us over the winter). And tough spots to navigate?

What did you finally find?
And where is it located now?

I didn't find anything yet im delivering my boat which I just sold and delivering it from long Island to Forked River.. looking for local knowledge of the bays near Forked river

Been a lot of years for me others may chime in, but really only one choice given this time of year.
Never going to be flat always going need to assume winds out of the N 10+ Kts and waves 3-4ft or more.

Manasquan Inlet, Pt Pleasant canal, and down the ICW on Barnegat Bay to Forked River.
But this time of year you need a GOOD weather window from Sandy Hook to Manasquan.
And hit Manasquan Inlet at slack water after a high tide in daylight. Currents in the canal can be a little tricky but not nearly as difficult since the new bridges went in. Slack at the Inlet after high tide will put you at the canal against a slight current. Better than having it on your stern pushing you thru if your not familiar with it.

Barnegat Inlet has been a "local knowledge required" for decades. The shoals move so fast NOAA wont even chart the buoys. And even past the bar between the inlet and the center bay it shifts constantly. Much closer to Forked River but don't even consider it.

Through Sunday, the Small Craft Advisory is now in effect for
Delaware Bay through this evening. A Small Craft Advisory is now
in effect through Sunday morning on the New Jersey and Delaware
Atlantic coastal waters.

Low pressure will continue to move farther offshore through
tonight, with high pressure gradually arriving during the day
Sunday. The pressure gradient however will remain in place into
Sunday morning, and there could be a bit of an uptick in the
winds this evening. A more notable downward trend in the winds
is expected during Sunday. Seas on the ocean are in the 4-7 feet
range this afternoon and these will gradually subside
especially during Sunday.

Tall order lol ok so scratch Barnegat Inlet I'll take Manasquan. Buoys still in this time of year? I should hit the Inlet right around 130pm

Good luck buddy be safe congratulations on the sale it’s been a long time coming

Low tide at 11 am
High at 5:45 pm
So you'll be on the rising inbound tide

never knew them to pull the buoys
But if any buoys or dayboards are damaged they likely will wont repair until spring.

Congrats on the sale, Johnathon.

Regarding the delivery, I've been using Barnegat inlet for years (during daylight and total darkness). It's no different than Manasquan, in terms of getting in. The tricky part is once you're inside. But, if you study the charts it's no big deal. Yes, the Oyster Creek channel has reputation of shifting shoals and for that reason the markers are not charted. However, the markers are there. Anytime I was passing through there off season (never in January, though...LOL), I'd verify with CG that markers are in place.

If you choose to use Manasquan inlet, the tricky part will be using the ICW after the PP Canal. There are few shallow spots which have been there for years. My depth alarm goes off every few min. I've never touched but I feel very uncomfortable in some sections. For this reason I try avoiding MI to BI run on the inside.

In short, once you pass the Oyster Creek channel, you're home free, as BB offers wide and open 8-10' of water to FR, which is well marked during boating season. The trick using BI is to make sure you follow the U-shape passage passed the light. As charted, use either G1/R2, or G3/R4 pairs to enter the inlet. It's a straight shot to get in. Once you're in, go slow and search for the markers. The first important move is locating R12 (start of U-shape passage), that's where you'll be making 90* turn to port. Then, follow to R14, R16, R18....at R22 you're shooting for Oyster Creek channel. Make sure to locate the G25/R24 pair, and don't confuse R2 (this is adjacent Double Creek Channel) with R24. At R30 you're making another 90* turn to port and just follow the markers. From R40 shoot for BI marker and make 90* turn to STBD. You're home free from here and can jump back on plane.

Lastly, I rather say it than assume. Starting from R2 all the way to R40, make sure to keep all REDs on your right. This is where red/right/return rule applies. Once you're in official NJICW the REDs (e.g. BB buoy) will be on your PORT, heading North to FR.

Good luck and safe travels.

I would use the Manasquan Inlet. The only shallow part of the inter coastal is between the south exit of the Point Pleasent canal and the Mantaloking bridge. When you reach the BB marker take a right into Forked River.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write all that. Very much appreciated. Depending on sea conditions depends on what inlet i go in. The cams are showing amazing conditions right now and only suppose to get better

Sorry guys long day yesturday got home and passed out left the dock at 10:15 broke Jones inlet around 1115. Started with a straight line to barnegat then the west winds kicked up a bit so we headed straight west to hug the shore ran about 2 miles east of the jersey shore turned out to be a very nice ride once we turned from 270* to 180* ran for about 3 hours at 180* with the wind and sea at our back. Turned into barnegat which was actually a very nice inlet. Couple of breaking waves from the 2ft long period east swell that was out but set up right in between sets and rode the back of the wave in. Once we got in we trawled about 8knts around the twisties which were extremely well marked and all deep water. Lowest I seen was 7 ft but most was 15-25ft. Turned up the icw jumped back up and made it in safely with zero issues. Pulled in about 330 the buyer met us there to drive us back to Manhatten got i bite to eat and then jumped on the train to go home finally fell face first in my bed about 830. Gunna miss the old girl. The boat was empty other then fuel. Through the trip at half tanks she ran at 3350 at 26mph best she ever ran .80 mpg havnt seen that in the 8 years I owned her. Well on to the next chapter. Pictures are crap screen shots from a video
