Forming of the Great Lakes

Without watching 45 min. let me guess -- the Great Lakes where formed by global warming. :)

Thanks for sharing this. Great explanation of how we got this resource. We lived on Spring Lake which is an interesting story in itself. I have always marveled at how deep it is up to the shore line. It is a long narrow lake with a maximum depth of 43 feet. What is interesting is the depth close to shore. Our dock was just 55 feet long but it was 25 feet deep at the end and was 6 feet deep just a few feet from shore so we always had lots of water for our boat during the cycles. In the picture above, the water was over my head at the water line of the boat's bow with 25 feet of depth beneath the swim platform. Those pilings are 60 feet long. The lake was formed by an ancient river that flowed from miles inland to the Grand River which drains into Lake Michigan. Spring Lake is actually a steep ravine that filled with water when the ice retreated thousands of years ago.

Quite a lot of years, or maybe not depending on viewpoint, and massive changes to get to what we have now. Just think, AOC and Bill Gates both think they can control it....eat more veggies, stop the cow farts, and all will be OK.;)

Pangea and migrating North American craton, very complicated. Lots of fossilized critters in them thar pre- and post cambrian deposits under da water.....5 years of geoscience schooling and 30 years consulting and I still shake my head at our 5+ billion year old planet and its every changing skin.

Watch the last 10 minutes or so
Don't know how old that is, but maybe they need to update it. They are talking low water levels, while these days marina parking lots are flooded. They also tell us that another ice age is coming -- they may want to inform AOC, Kerry, et. al.

The water isn’t going down the land is going up

Interesting show. What caught my eye was the fall in lake levels being attributed to global warming.

I thought you boys up there had more water than you know what to do with?

Perhaps it's just that global warming is the answer to all climate and environment questions.....:D

I did watch it, interesting. Can't believe the the ground level getting higher . Never have I believed in global warming. I have seen palm tree fossils here in east KY, tells me it was a lot warmer here at one time, so i feel certain when mother nature wants to turn the heat down there will be nothing we can do about that either.

Not sure I buy the global warming being attributed to man but I do believe in climate change and weather cycles. I think the affect of man on our environment has been massively exaggerated for profit and control. With that being said, we definitely could do a much better job of taking care of our planet. It sucks running up to the islands and seeing all the crap on the shores
