While doing all my yearly checks (boat on the trailer), I filled the empty fresh water holding tank with water, got in the engine compartment to do other inspections then noticed a small flow of fresh water dribbling down the bilge from the bow from under the fuel tank. Where do I start - tank, lines etc.? removal of all the panels and taking the interior apart? the manual is sadly lacking details on the fresh water holding system on the 2010 Sea Ray 240 Sundancer.

They're decent owner's manuals, but like car manuals, they don't go into too much service information. And, there is no "service manual" for the boat. I suppose the assumption is that if you're working on it, you can figure it out - like you're doing.

Your tank is located under the forward v-berth cushion. There's a panel you can remove. Now, the cabin is sealed from the engine bilge ("shouldn't" drain to the engine bilge), but there are sometimes pinholes in the glass layup process that can allow a small trickle. BUT - you should see the water in your step-down pump area - have you looked there?

Are you sure it just wasn't water that was trapped forward, under the gas tank - and when you cranked the trailer jack up (or by you being in the back of the boat, essentially lowering the stern a little bit) the water ran backwards?

If it's a water line that's leaking, the pump should run - either continuously or more than normal.

Lazy Daze - you are totally correct. The Step-Down pump area was bone dry. I cranked trailer Jack up to give more tilt on the boat and saw only a small amount of water roll back in the engine compartment from under the fuel tank, which I dried up. So, no leaks from the main holding tank :) I filled the holding tank, ran all pressurized systems and no leak. I did (myself) just change out the manifolds and Risers, as well as a new sea water pump (that had been leaking) and some hoses plus today, a new alternator. My guess is that this 1/4 cup of water was from the work I did last month. It was the fact that this water was not salt water, that led me to believing my tank could have had a leak.

Great - a "no fix" is the best kind of fix!
