I have a 2007 Shorelander Trailer for a Sea Ray 230 Select I just bought. The previous owner never used the trailer. He kept the boat at his boat dock and never trailered it. When I looked in the master cylinder for fluid level it was empty and full of rust. I replaced the coupler with all new parts (Master Cylinder, Shock, and backup solenoid), I bled the brakes and found the problem. A hose was leaking horribly and the brakes never worked. It probably came from the factory with the bad hose and the first owner never knew it. All four caliper bleed plugs were plugged up when I went to bleed brakes and when I finally bleed them the calipers were full of rust. So, all four calipers are frozen and have been for several years. I do not want to replace all four calipers due to cost but would like to try and rebuild them. My owners manual states I have UFP DB35 calipers which are from a 97-2000 KIA Sephia. I am trying to find rebuild parts and need advice. I can find the seal kits but the caliper pistons are hard to find? I am sure the pistons are real rusty. Any advice on this situation would be appreciated. I do not want to spend a lot of time and effort, if I am setup for failure. I am sure someone here has been in the same situation and can give me advice on how to proceed. I am betting it will be hard as hell to get the calipers apart based on sitting there for 4 years frozen up. I have to get this done soon. The 230 select and tandem trailer over powers my F-150.

THanks,
Rob

you may want to just buy some used calipers for what it would cost to rebuild the originals...i have used this web site many times for used auto parts....it has sorting capabilities so you can find the lowest cost and/or the closest participating salvage yard to your location....good luck...

I was in the same situation as you with master cylinder empty, massive leaks when I tried to fill it, and frozen rusted calipers. I had to completely replace my surge coupler. I ended up replacing the rotor/calipers with brand new ones from Kodiak disc brakes. Check them out. For what you get, and the effort you'll save, they are not a bad price for a pair depending on which series you get (from standard to complete stainless).

I feel your pain. These came off my less than two year old Shorelandr tandem trailer. The boots all detached and were penetrated by water. The manufacture sent me four brand new ones after I sent these pics to them. New pads and everything, now I stop like a champ.

Here you go.

Sorry about the sideways images. I don't quite understand what when wrong there.

I can make you all feel better. :smt001 Talk about rusted calipers, check this out:

Good thing I got a great deal on this trailer... I ended up replacing every bit of the steel on this otherwise aluminum trailer. New brake rotors, calipers, surge coupler, leaf springs, one axle... All hardware is now stainless. Only thing I have yet to replace are some bunk brackets and bolts that are to be replaced before the boat goes back on the trailer late this fall.

WOW!........how many cans of PB Blaster, propane torch canisters, extractor drill bits, grinder disks, and 'colorful' words did it take to get that stuff off?.........:smt013.......

A LOT! Actually it was pretty easy. Sine most everything is through bolted, I was able to use an air powered cut off wheel for nearly everything...along with a few colorful words thrown in every once in awhile. :)
