Gauges on Vessel View going crazy

On our way home from our Memorial Day cruise we experienced some strange behavior on our gauges. It happened a couple of times though there were no issues with the engines or boat performance when the gauges decided to flip out.

Check out this video: https://vimeo.com/220428565

(It's important to note that the upper gauges are in fact not analog and are displaying digital information from the same data source as Vessel View.)

Could there be an issue with our wet cell batteries? (I don't trust those things) or an indication of Vessel View failing? Or something else?

Any help or advice is appreciated!!

Sandy

Holy crap, mine did that too this weekend, twice. First the port gauges would all drop to zero and then back, the a second later, the starboard did the same thing. I couldn't tell by your video, but my oil/fuel/battery/temp gauges did the same thing in sync with the tachs.

The first time it happened, I was just powering up to get on plane so I backed off and everything seemed normal. I went ahead and cruised around for a while and after about 30minutes, it did it again. This time I was at about 1400 RPM and I was heading back to the marina. Everything else was normal including vessel view display.

This happened to me a couple of years ago too. When it did, I stopped the boat, shut off the engines and then battery switches too. Powered everything back up in order (I have axius and was told to power up everything starboard first and power off everything port first) and it didn't act up again until this weekend.

I too have Wet cell batteries but just on the starboard bank, waiting for them to die so I can replace with AGMs to match the port bank. I really don't thing these are the issue, I was thinking it was just a bad connection somewhere.

Just FYI - I called Mercury Marine yesterday and they confirmed that the behavior is indeed from a bad connection. They recommended tracing the cable back from the Vessel View unit, disconnecting and reconnecting after checking for any oxidation or corrosion. He recommended using an electronics cleaner (alcohol-based) on the connections rather than di-electric grease. If that doesn't resolve the problem he suggested to check the connections in the engine room. We'll be out at our boat this weekend so I'm going to see if I can resolve the problem on my own. I'd hate to have to have the dealer come out to do something simple like this. I hope that you are able to resolve your issue also.

Hi Sandy - I have the same issues going on you had mentioned here. How did you resolve?

I’m having similar issues with our 2010 DA370 - have AXIUS as well. In our case Vessel View just started to intermittently indicate a trim tab and/or crankshaft sensor warning when up on step and oscillate between OK and the sensor warning. At about the same time the starboard electrical circuit started to malfunction intermittently - (no audible signal when turning on starboard ignition key, no power to start starboard engine, no power going to Vessel View). Checked all the wiring harness connections and fuses - all seemed ok....jiggling the wires worked to get all working over the last month but that’s not working anymore.
