We were slipped in a marina 60 miles and 2 locks north from our marina last week. I looked at the radar and decided to try and out run a storm system that was heading our way. Everything was going fine, got to the first lock, radioed ahead and got right through.:smt038 Cruised down to the next lock which is only one mile north of our marina and with the storm system on our tail I radioed the lock asking what the time frame was to lock through going south? After a little hesitation they replied it would be 2 hours (barge coming from the south).:smt089 I came off plane, shut the engines down and was getting ready to put up the canvas when the lock called me back on the radio asking how far out I was and how fast could I get there? :huh:I told them I was 2 miles out and I would be there in 2 seconds. He said get here quick and I'll lock you through.:smt038 We did and they did. I wish I would have had the camera ready because when the opened the gates to exit there was the barge waiting to come into the lock leaving only enough room for me to exit. We got to our slip and just when I was zipping up the last of the canvas the skies opened up. Yep, we got lucky.

We got lucky too. Went for a cruise to a place about 15 miles south of our marina. 70 MPH winds went through our marina and a tornado a few miles away. We hit the shallows and threw the anchor and the storm never hit where we were. Just a little rain.

I remember when getting lucky had a different meaning. i guess that was before the Internet, too.
