Hello. I have a 1999 Sundancer 240. I’m wanting to mount a grill (probably the Magma variety). Just wondering what sort of mounts and spots on the boat others might have selected for grill-mounting?

welcome to CSR....

most common grill mounts are pedestal mount on the swim platform, fishing rod holder mount, and railing mount....

if you look at the Magma web site you will see their various grills and mounts and pricing....

good luck....

With that boat, you likely want to look at mounting via the built in fishing rod holder (s). I don't think you have a bar to mount one on your transom, so that's likely your best bet. Magma sells the mounts separate from the grill.

A 240DA may not have rod holders. Our 260DA did not a not and I mounted the pedestal base opposite of the swim ladder on the swim platform. It worked extremely well. We could leave it up all weekend and it never got in the way.

Current 44DB has rod holders and I bought the rod holder mount. I think I liked the pedestal mount better, but both have pros and cons.

Mine is on a pedestal and post in one corner of the swim platform. Next to that is another pedestal for the serving and prep table.

One idea for you if possile. Mount the pedestal plate under the swimstep cover. Hidden until you need it.

Thanks for the replies. I do not think I have rod holder mounts, unless i’m somehow not seeing them. My preference would be to use the pedestal mount on the swim platform, but this platform does not extend very far from the end of the boat—i’m afraid me and the food might end up in the drink. Adding a rod holder might be my best bet. I’ll do some more checking around.

Your best bet might be to add a rod holder near the transom door.

Rod holder next to transom door looks like a good choice.

We use the rail mount and attach it to a pole or a hand rail--this pic of another boat's setup sold me on the concept, though we don't rest the tank on the surface as shown. It's very versatile to move it to different places depending on whether we're anchored solo; rafted with boats on one side, the other, or both; and to route drippings to the water instead of on the deck or swim platform. (First Mate gets annoyed sometimes that I flip the mount the other direction, but I really appreciate adaptability.) If we need a snugger fit, we use a scrap of vinyl shelf liner inside the plastic pole cover provided with the mount.

I cover one of the aft facing seats with a beach towel to use it as my prep table.

On your boat, the rail mount might work well with the back poles of your front bimini to hang over either side. If you have an extended bimini, that gives you more options. Someone else we boat with uses the bulkhead mount so his grill swings out over the port side.

I’ve got a round Magna grill with a rail mount and a rod holder mount.
I didn’t feel like the rail mount was all that sturdy. The rod holder mount is much sturdier, but it puts the grill in an inconvenient spot for me.
My swim platform is pretty roomy and there is a horizontal grab bar mounted on the transom over the storage locker so I got a “grillamount”. It was the best solution for my boat. Very sturdy, well made, and now I stand on the platform when I grill. If you have a similar set up you may want to google it to see what it looks like.

On my 260 i used clamp on stainless steel rod holders on the rear hatch (on the swim platform) for my magma.
Worked great. plenty of room when I grilled on the platform.

Following...

I'm looked at the Grillamount, might work, but I'm going with a Weber Q1200. Solid little grill, and does a great job grilling anything from dogs to steaks. Testing around the house, I've not been able to get it to blow out.

I like the idea of hanging it off the transom grab rail, but it looks like the Grillamount is set up for the Magmas.

Looking for ideas to build custom arrangement. I'd like to be able to use the mount as a grill station, and/or as a cocktail table (or stow the whole thing).

I have a Magma with a rod holder mount (I have added rod holders on my gunwales as far aft as I could fit them). It works well and keeps it as far out of the cockpit as possible.

I like the idea of a pedestal mount on the swim platform, but it might be neat to have a fabricator cut and angle a pole such that it was straight at the bottom, then angled outward, then straight up again. That way the grill would be out over the water a bit, giving more room on the transom when grilling and drips would fall into the water.

A boating friend had a costco "Nextgrill" stainless table top grill he put on a platform on a pedestal on the swim platform. It worked really well, but was a bit big for stowing. He had a Regal 380 so he had decent storage space.

This is the one I have. Love it! http://grillamount.com/

I think whoever had my 280da previously had their grill mounted to the transom locker handle. The rear seat back has what look like two grease burn marks from what i think was from opening the grill and it leaking hot grease on the vinyl.

Get a Rod Holder mount from Magma it keeps the grill away from the boat and is secure.
