Normally we go to Put in Bay during the week. On one of those week day outings we got all tied up and it was having a great day. A old cruiser pulled in on the other side of the dock then put old house speakers out the window pointed toward our boat. Then they went inside the cockpit. Now this wouldn't have been so bad but they only played 5 songs I like to Move it, Lion sleeping tonight, The Electric slide, Chicken dance song, Born in the USA. Now after hearing that loop about 5 times I ask if they could point the speakers away from my boat. Of coarse the owner told me to do something humanly impossible and I ended up call him a not so nice word ending with whole. Then John the Dock Master told him to move the speaker. Gosh I don't like those songs thought I was at a Wedding reception.

I felt like that guy with the stereo in your story this past July...even though I had no music playing!

I met up with some nice folks from CSR, hung out, had a couple drinks, had a great time (or so I thought).

Woke up the next morning and everybody bailed on me! Had the whole dang marina to myself.

Most of us don't sleep until noon!! Just kidding. We did exit early! The people creeping the docks at 11pm didn't help with all of the unrest this past summer :)

The "Attack Cat" wouldn't protect you??? :)

OPM (Other People's Music) has always been a pet peeve of mine. Whenever I see a thread about "What speakers should I get for my 40,000 watt stereo", I'm always tempted to suggest headphones with the volume cranked all the way up, playing some ear-worm song from the 60's. Maybe Air Supply?

damn. now I have an ear worm just thinking about it.

Agreed. It feels like folks that want a massive sound system forget how far sound travels over water and may not feel the joy in their playlist.

We typically go out on the boat for quiet enjoyment and have picked our locations accordingly. We avoid the known "party holes" so that others can have their fun. The limited times we use the radio are for baseball games or a little bit of Yacht Rock Radio at low volume. I'm far past the days of pumping out music that I can select - let alone being subjected to someone else's "noise".

I'll go yell at some clouds now.

There's a guy on my lake that claims he spent something like 60-75k on his system. He has a Sea Ray 39MY? and the entire transom is speakers plus he has them molded in everywhere imaginable in the cockpit. Literally you can hear this thing a mile away. Insanely ridiculous.

My question is “why”. I must be getting old.

As a fairly young person that wears hearing aids to deal with hearing loss, this makes me cringe.

You need to come down to my end of PIB harbor where we are civilized....sort of :)

There's a big Sea Ray that is always on B dock that always cranks the music up the typical 70's & 80's bar music which is cool it last for about 15 to 30 minutes then he turns it down. Not sure if he turns it down or his wife but hat's off the them. Was at Portside Kelleys Is.5 yrs. ago Labor day or Memorial day for the weekend the lake was ripped up a lot of the boat were getting tossed in the marina . Over the night a guy played through the play list he got lit enough that about mid night he was playing The Lion king sound track. Good times were had by all. Nothing more fun then watching dunk people walking down a rocking dock. That same night had this drunk dude walking down the dock see me sitting in my boat and he said Man you look like you need a drink and he shucked a empty bottle of Captain Morgan to me.

At my regular raft up spot there’s a guy with a huge stereo that is blasting from morning until well after midnight and his text notification pings are constantly going off during the songs.

Needless to say this boat always has a crowd around it with no shortage of bikinis (not a bad thing) but it gets old and there are only rare moments of peace and quiet.

It’s not easy but I try to be as far away from that scene as I can get.

You all make me feel at home.
When a new boat Owner's first post is about how to install a bigger amp or sub on the new boat, I smile and shake my head. After the trials over the last year of my new to me 340 with shafts, shaft seals, struts, generator exhaust, a starter, and more...
For me, the best music is when the engines just simply and reliably fire up when I hit the start button. My playlist is port, starboard, and generator.

Hmmm boating load music and good drinks. The good ole days till the boaters of today get their panties in a bunch. Put In Bay days we rocked the dock and all the then boaters never complained they just asked to play some of the song choices they liked. One boat would crank it for awhile then another would turn his up. If someone on the dock you were on and the music was cranked, kick back and enjoy. Never try to out do them even if you could.

Haters gonna hate.

The govmt, in their attempt to reduce shoreline erosion while improving fish habitat, has put piles of rocks in many of our local calm sandy bottom hangouts. That, coupled with covid and the huge amount of new boat owners (note I didn't say boaters) has reduced the number of nice mooring spots.

Last Summer we had a bunch of idiots next to us with the same loud obnoxious music. Also, they had a jetski and were taking turns all afternoon flying in and out.

We had been out of the water for awhile and had all but dried up, so my wife put her dress coverup on over her dry bathing suit. We were just about to leave when the &^*$ kid came back on the 'ski and did donuts right next to us. Of course it was a Yami and the visibility spout sprayed the entire inside of our boat, including the dry wife. The worst part was the kid started to laugh and then drove off in a flash.

That was our last Sunday outing. We boated on weekdays for the rest of the Summer, and went to our cabin on weekends.

its even better in Miami on the Sandbars where 1000s of $$$$ boats with 15 outboards on the back all crank up 35-75K systems with Latino to country to EDM... thats fun
