Though I've done this impeller replacement many times, I got distracted when I was removing the old impeller and want to put the new one in tomorrow, but can't remember which way the veins should go and I know that's very important.. Anyone that knows - it's a Kohler 5E.. Also any tricks in getting the impeller to sit properly... Someone said to put the new one in warm or hot water first to soften it up a little? It's a pain in the ___ to reach the generator in the 320 as it is, so any tips are appreciated...

Thanks

Barry

Hi Barry. It doesn't really matter which way you put them in as it will rotate to the proper orientation upon spin-up. I like to put a good bit of dish detergent on mine. I use a plastic rip ties to make the right size circle, sometimes two of them. And slide them off as you insert into the impeller housing. I've also tried using ss o-clamps but the plastic rip ties seem to work better. Warm water might help soften it up if it is very stiff. The key is to prepare the impeller BEFORE you attempt to insert it.

Thanks! Just getting to where the impeller is on my 320 is a PITA!! I usually put a moving blanket down over the engines and exhausts and lay out flat to reach it and not get cut up by all the clamps etc. I will try some warm water first and then a little dish soap.. Never tried zip ties, I've also heard guys using string to tie it into position.. Oh what fun!

Thanks again for the help and quick reply.

Barry
