22 years old - Sold my car to buy the boat on Lake Champlain in Burlington, VT. Kept it on a mooring in Mallets Bay. Bummed rides for a year until I got a girlfriend with a car. Ah, the good old days.

Just a thought about this thread, but when I was a kid I started shoveling driveways and mowing lawns when I was 10, delivering papers when I was 12 and worked 3-4 days a week at a supermarket bagging groceries when I was 14. The kids these same ages in my neighborhood do nothing all day but sit around flipping their skateboards. No kid has ever approached me to ask if they could mow my lawn. Most of the supermarket people seem to be 40 something lifers now. One has to have a job to get money to obtain the things they want, but the video game generation doesn't, in general, seem too bothered to care.

My father built a sailing pram for me when I was 8. My step mother hand made a dacron racing sail for it. That pram was a rocket. I bought my first power boat when I was 20.

I was also a late starter too- I was 40. If I knew I would have felt this way, I would have bought one 20 years earlier. Started with a 19 ft. bowrider then three years later moved to my 270 da.

25 (1982) -18 ft baja that would run about 70 mph. added a 15 ft whaler then traded both for a 1980 24 ft Sea Ray weekender.
The baby boomers are getting older - duh, every part of the economy will have to follow that money to their graves.
