How "Smart" are"Smart TV's"?

Ok, back on this today. Replaced amplifier and no change in number of channels. Next removed antenna, disconnected wire and ran a temporary cable from antenna to "input antenna" connection on amplifier. Again, no change in the number of channel s received. This leads me to suspect the glomex antenna itself. Any way to check this with a digital voltage meter?

Wow, this has turned into much more than it ever should have. Doesn’t seem it can be this complicated. I have no idea of how to check the antenna with a DVM. You know the cable is has a good connection to the antenna? Sure sounds like there may be a bad connection somewhere...

Yeah, I agree this should be simple. I have sent an email to Glomex explaining the situation, so maybe I'll have something else to try next week.

Heard back from Glomex and they said antenna should be ok. Also spent over an hour with Samsung tech support, and the only suggestion they had was to move the antenna.
Sorta on the fence as to buying a newer tv, in hopes that it's digital tuner may be better. Who knows? I may be just stuck with Dish.

Windjammer, I am like Carter, reception sucks in the slip under the roof and works like a charm while on the water. If you don't have a satellite option for when you are at the slip, for $20 get an OTA antenna to put on the dock and connect via the dockside cable input and use your ship/shore switch.

An "on the water" test is probably worthwhile, but I think I tried this years ago. What has me baffled is that ION Tv are the only channels the tv tuner sees. The picture is clear and signal strength is very good, just not a lot of choices. Yet I cannot receive any other OTA channels.

Did the "on the water" test today and left the driving to my Daughter. Did about 7 channel scans over about a 10 mile area of the lake. The tv picked up a few more channels, but wouldn't "hold" them - kept getting "weak or no signal" message. Didn't matter if we were stopped or idling around 1200 rpm. I guess Allatoona is null and void for OTA TV reception on a boat..
