You wonder what happened - it had a pretty good head of steam coming in - I guess that is a different meaning to "dragging anchor".

Mechanical issue prevented the ship from stopping. But they were on thier way that evening. The dock on the other hand not so lucky.

it looked like the bow thruster was working OK in the video so why did it not push the ship/bow away from the dock?....maybe a strong wind was blowing it towards land....

Looks like the captain from Costa Concordia is out 
I imagine there was an engine or controls casualty preventing an astern bell. Letting go the anchor to try and take way off would be an understandable move.
