I want to grease the moving parts in the throttle /shift control unit on our 2010 185 sport. How do I remove it from the boat so I can service it? I thought someone must have made a youtube video of it but i
can't find one.

I considered this last season, but opted for removing the bezel and hitting it with lithium grease spray and working it in.

Works far smoother with far less surgery.

After taking a picture of my control unit and then poking around on the internet I determined my control is a Mercruiser Commander 4000 Gen 2. I was able to find a video a guy made on getting rid of the freeplay in the control unit on his boat and it showed how to remove it, pretty simple. The throttle only button pops off with a small flat blade screwdriver. The bezel on the gen 2 is held on with small plastic fingers so I will have to figure out how they release. The one in the video must have been a first gen, the bezel was held on with 2 screw. After the bezel is off there are 6 bolts, 3 hold the unit to the boat, 3 hold the front and back of the unit together. You remove the 3 that hold the front and back halves together, drop the back down and out you remove the back cover and thats all there is to it.
