I have a 2006 sundancer 38 with internal transmission and I want to install the Sterndrives transmission; my hull has two channels to guide the water to the propellers
I ask? To install Sterndrives, do I have to fill these channels?

Better off selling it and buying another boat.
    Just the cost is prohibitive

What he said, +1. It’s not just fiberglass and a stern drives. You may need to swap the engines as well because vee drive engines are installed “backwards” ( fly wheel going forward). A 380 may also be a bit too heavy for sterndrives.

Better to buy a different boat. You might consider another similar sized Sea Ray with pods instead.

I have no idea on the load you will put on the stern of your boat. You may require some sort of engineering design for strength and boat load balance. Call your insurance provider and ask if they will insure your boat if you make the modifications.

That will be some fast boat with twin 370HP diesels. If you do it please post your top speed.

Converting a V-drive to stern-drive; Your hull has prop pockets which raises the bilge floor from just behind the V-drive gear all the way back to the transom. Additionally, the rudders go through the center of the prop pockets. Because of the prop pockets you will probably not be able to move the engines back far enough and maintain the correct height for a stern drive arrangement without the engines interfering with bilge floor at the pockets. Additionally, you would have to get the FRP layup drawings but I think you will find that hulls with prop pockets do not have transoms engineered to support the loads from a stern drive arrangement. Just my thoughts.....

Possible to just install the Yanmars in place of the gas motors? still using the V-Drive layout?

    hello
    I initially thought about it
I realized that the ratio in the ZF 63 transmission is 2.5 for the revolutions of the gas engine 4500 to 5000
The Yanmar has fewer revolutions, it would need a transmission with a lower ratio.
I'm thinking this may be a way out

I agree with an earlier post... get another boat.

Your boat and hull is designed for V-drives, period.

Not to be rude but literally have no idea on earth why you would want to go backwards to stern drives. Handling would be poor around the dock(good luck without thrusters) and you can't leave it in the water full time without massive maintenance cost incurred. There is a reason why big boats don't use stren drives.

I sold a 300da to go to inboards and never want to go back unless its some go fast hot rod boat. That is a totally different ball game than what you have.

If you want diesel which i recommend for that size boat convert its current configuration to diesel. That's what the previous owner did with my Tiara. I have Cummins and love them!

    Thank you for your opinion
all the other colleagues of the Club, who have given their opinion coincide with Your message.
I'm going to abort the idea, think about looking for the right transmissions for the Yanmar using the current system
    Thank you
