Deathstorm 2020 forecast was a giant fail. The only thing they got right was the total amount of liquid precip overall. But glad I don't have to fire up the chainsaw!

Even though the meteorologists may have got it wrong, I still have to believe in what they do is to inform the uneducated public of impending storms. There once was a chicken who was hit in the head with an acorn!
Better to prepare for the worst and be thankful for just a minimal storm.
Now I have 40 gallons of extra gas but I’m sure it will end up in my daughter’s car, see someone wins!

At a charity dinner function I once stated to a station manager the I thought the over hyped potential bad weather for the repeat eyeballs the got because of the hype, I expected some negative reaction to the pretty blatant accusation. He agreed they do that and thought it no big deal that they did. I remember something about a boy that cried wolf...

Another friend that managed a station had a very accurate weatherman, however he once predicted a 2 inch storm but a 10 inch storm came. The switchboard lit up, even letters to the editor. (pre social media) Next time a 2 inch storm came they hyped it as 10 inches, not a singe call or formal complaint.

My understanding is a 30% chance of rain is not a small chance of a little rain as many perceive, but rather it really rained in 30 of 100 times in similar conditions in the model...

Pffftttt.....what a joke. Michigan brought in extra police, fire and EMS. They alerted National Guard. Consumers Energy brought in trucks from out of state to handle expected outages. My bet is the “storm” cost millions of dollars and was nothing but a dusting of snow and a light glaze of ice. I was in GR yesterday and back home today. Both places are pfffttt

Agreed. And add to that the cancellations that started Friday evening. Big money.

I believe they had the annual RV show in Grand Rapids this weekend. I wonder if their attendance got smoked on Saturday? People "sheltering in place" from the .005" of ice in GR

My biggest beef is with wind forecasts

During the Summer months our local guessers include a boating forecast for Lake Huron, Lake St.Clair and Erie. Each lake with wave heights, wind direction and speed.

One of these guessers is a pretty good customer of mine. I finally cornered him about some of the tools available to a schmuck like me.

The Toledo #2 Lighthouse being one. So it's been blowing out of the East for the last 14 hours at 19 with 25kt gusts and you're calling for 1-3's? He's not a boater BTW....LOL

We get so many weather alerts around here now that I think most ignore them, including me. I know I shouldn't. Snow alerts I don't worry about. I work from home and wife teaches so if it's that bad she will be home too. We aren't near a flood zone but do worry about the boat and we do have tornados pop up occasionally but in the summer they put out tornado alerts like bathroom breaks

Well, we get another shot at another storm this coming weekend. I hope not. We need a break from all the precipitation. Glad I'm on a floating dock.
