Lets not turn this into a should we take vitamins/supplements, if you eat right you shouldn't have to, etc. thread...

I had dinner with 2 of my buddies last night. We are all 52+ so we usually end up talking about health, age, injuries, etc. at some point during dinner. Supplements came up last night and both of them commented they take them to live longer. I take them to feel better today/tomorrow and never thought about living longer.

I only take a couple now, one for my aching knees/joints so I can feel better on the tennis court. And a fish oil a couple times a week for overall health. I keep some C's around for colds and such. Again, to feel better/heal up quicker.

IF you take vitamins/supplements, what is your goal, why do you take them?

I take a vitamin supplement called Neovitin. I use it for 2 reasons: I don't eat enough vegetables (nor will I); I feel better in general and have more energy when I take it. I never thought much about it extending my life, but I guess that is a factor since I take them to counter the effects of my hatred of most veges.

Omega 3---Heart health
Korean Ginseng---Energy
Tart Cherry extract---Antioxidant
Turmeric---overall health

I take a probiotic and Vitamin D. Probiotic because it helps me now. Vitamin D because every time I get bloodwork it keeps me in the low range of optimal.

The Vitamin D comment is interesting. I never saw this in my bloodwork until my last annual check up. Dr said it's because folks are staying indoors more with COVID. I took one a day for about 3 months then stopped since I am outside more now that it's warmer. It'll be interesting to see where I test next year.

If I have fish for a meal I will not take the fish oil supplement the next day.

Daily;
Multivitamin (Kirkland brand mens)
Omega 3 oil
Vitamin D 2000 units (only in winter months)
EsterC (vitamin C) (in winter) break them in half
Aspirin 80mg (yeah, I know those early studies showing reduced heart disease and colon cancer risk are no longer considered meaningful. Probably should stop? Dad died of heart disease/dementia. Maternal grandmother, colon cancer)

All for general health. Probably don’t need it. I eat well and actually like veggies. Can’t hurt.

I've been taking a collagen powder as well hoping it will help my joints feel better. I don't think it really is but it sure is helping my fingernails grow faster.

I take the vitamin D per my doctor and have pre-existing conditions that can benefit from maintaining a "normal" range. Unfortunately, I need the supplement to stay in the optimal range, regardless of time of year. I have blood tests several times a year, and my primary adds it to the list.

Centrum - Just a multivitamin
Fish oil - Bordeline High Colesterol
Osteo Bi Flex w/Turmeric (anti inflamatory) - I'm 54 and my knees are 94

I hear you brother! I have been on this stuff for 25 years and swear by it. I started it after surgery on my left knee in my mid 30s. If I go off of it for a couple of days my kneesles acts up.

I feel like I'm in some kind of alternate universe where the men sit around knitting and talk about their aches and pains.
Uh huh, these conversations started a few years ago with my good friends who I have dinner with on a recurring basis. Colonoscopys, annual exams, aches and pains, who got sick with what, etc.
