Impeller Tool - Great

If anyone with 6ctas wants one of these, I have a friend that bought one and it doesn't work for her boat. She has the 5.9's. Anyway......I'm sure she'd let it go for a bit less that the original price. PM me and see if we can make a deal. For reference, it is the exact one that I use on my 2004 6CTA's, which works perfectly as the original poster stated.

Jaybeaux, I would be interested in that for my 2004 6CTAs.

Hmm...I just use a large bolt to thread in and remove then zip ties for install. Biggest PIA is not dropping the key in the intake hose, then inserting the new. Solve that by rotating the engine so key is on the top.

It's really a tool to install the impeller. I too use a bolt to remove the old one. This tool compresses the vanes in an aluminum cylinder and the new one just slides in. VERY easy.

I haven't replaced impellers (yet) but is there a reason an old fashioned piston ring compressor like this wouldn't work?

I use a campells soup can. Find one that fits your pump cut the end off rotate it as you slide it in your pump to remove the old and reverse it for installing the new. Rotate to install the key and then slide it out with a slight push on the impeller to keep it in the pump. Cost basically free as you probably had the soup for lunch.

I've used the soup can trick too but with SMX pumps and splined impellers it's super easy now. A couple of tie wraps helps start the process. Just snip them with side-cutters as the impeller is inserted.

The Impeller tool my friend had has been sold. I appreciate everyone's interest and the CSR board for working together.

I ordered one today. It is plenty doable with zip ties but the port pump is so hard to reach on my boat anything that could make it easier is welcomed.

any idea which one works for a 7.4 Horizon, i am on my second season, need to change in the spring.... this seems to make it easier...

I sent Andy an email with my engine model he told me which one I needed

Hi All,

I finally bought this tool to help install the impellers in the seawater pumps in my Cummins 6CTA's. I have no affiliation with the company, but I have to say I am very impressed. It used to take 2 hours or more to do my impellers the "old fashion way", mainly because the pump on the strb side is outboard and very difficult to do. I usually have to remove the whole pump to do an impeller change.

This past week, I used the tool and did both engines in 30 mins, and MUCH easier (did not have to remove the strb pump). I am very happy with it, not only now, but in the future. Yes, it is about a boat dollar, but very much worth it. I wish I had got it years ago.

Again, no affiliation, just wanted to say that I now have a much easier way to change impellers. http://impellertool.com/

Thanks
Larry
Getting the price was no issue for me. Trust me, I am the thriftiest/cheapest boater out there. It's not just a one time charge. You will use it over, and over, and over.....again, I don't know this guy from Adam, but I do appreciate someone finding a solution to a problem. If you don't have access issues changing your impellers, you are very lucky (or very skinny). As noted, I paid about $100, tax, shipping, etc.
I thought an official boat dollar is $1,000.00

I think what you mean to say is that this item only cost a boat dime.
