Impeller Tool - Great

I sent an email a few days ago, hoping they respond
I just got an email from Andy with a tracking number that it is on the way.

Do you know what size you ordered?
No, i don’t know. I emailed Andy and told him it was a QSM11 and he gave me a quote. When I get it if it has a model # on it I can post it.

For the Seamax pumps on my 6cta's I got a G-15. This is supposed to fit the 17000 Sherwood pumps too I believe.

Wow they wanted 200 for my boat. Not sure it’s worth that much to me.

To confirm it is a G18 for Cummins QSM11. It was just shy of $200 but I need to do impellers this spring and the port side I have to do standing on my head reaching over the side of the engine so this will be a welcomed tool to hopefully make that easier.

Great, I'll wait for your feedback before purchasing.

I usually use 3 zip ties per impeller. I push the impeller into the housing and as soon as the first zip tie hits, I snip it with side cutters. Then i keep pushing until I hit second and third and snip as I go.
I have used rad clamps and follow the same idea. Zip tie seems like a good idea.

I’ll report back next spring once I use it.
Jeremy, curious as to how snug your impeller fits the tool. Mine is pretty tight. I'm going to pull the impeller on the stbd pump to see how it workS.

It is a tight fit. When I got the tool, I had an old impeller at home and tried to insert the old impeller and could not get it in. I was told that it would work with a new impeller, and he was right. When I got to the boat, I got a new impeller and it went in, then changed both impellers. Be sure and watch the video and read the instructions.

Well, I just changed the starboard impeller (the easy one on my boat) and I couldn’t use the tool. I couldn’t get the new impeller in it. It was just too tight. When I put the tool into the pump housing it is a good 1/4” smaller diameter than the pump housing so no need fir it to be this tight. I am going to speak with them about this and see if I can get the correct tool. Anyone else use the tool with success?

I have the tool and use it. My Sherwood pumps use the 17000 model https://marinepumpdirect.com/two-pack-sherwood-17000k/

This impeller fits perfectly and lines up well with the Sherwood P1730C pump.

I have the 6CTA's 8.3 ms.

My marina neighbor has QSB 5.9's. She bought the impeller tool and had the problem that the tool was too small for the impleller, just as you are describing.

I have emailed the guy multiple times, I would say 6 and the only response I got was when I called him to say “I sent you an email, did you get it”

I guess I will call. He said he needs the exact impeller to size it, did you give him that part number?

Andy got back to me about an hour after I Emailed him and said it was the correct size tool and that it would fit but will be very hard to get the impeller into it. He said I needed to put more pressure on it. He said that it needed to be that small to fit by the lobes in the pump housing. Well he was right, it fits but it is REALLY tight. I am not sure if it will come out of the tool very easily but I will fine out on Saturday when I am at the boat. I will report back with how it went.

Damn that's tight! Hope you lubed it up well! (Keep it clean, gents).

Damn, that is tight although I am surprised I don't see some kind of lube at all. You should use liberal amounts in any application like this.

Trust me, I used plenty of lube to get it in there but I wiped off the extra lube because I didn’t want a sloppy tool for pics.
