Install camera to Axiom

Forget any ethernet/IP camera other than Garmin to the Garmin stuff. I have had multiple "experts" on the boat to integrate the Lorex security cameras and NVR into the Garmin system - dead end. The only way to view the cameras is through HDMI.

Confused? Irie308 got them working with an encoder, seems like the way to go for analog. Now if your referring to the screen resolution, I might agree with you. Even my 4212's scale the aspect ratio to svg when the camera's are 1080. I would think that HDMI would display correctly.

So how do you control the Lorex system through your Garmin MFD's, with a Lorex remote?

We first fed the Lorex's NVR data to the boat's Internet router then from the router to the Garmin POE isolator and then to the Garmin ethernet router. No joy and actually things were crashing. They then changed the camera IP addresses to Garmin protocol but again no joy. Fixed and dynamic addresses and a hundred other ideas but couldn't break into the Garmin system. As it ends up there is some pretty tight restrictions accessing and using non-Garmin devices on their ethernet; it's a security, safety, and liability thing.....
The answer is we cannot control the Lorex camera system through the Garmin navigational system and the only way to view the cameras on the Garmin MFD's it through the HDMI port. Great picture although. Controlling the camera system is either through the NVR, laptop, or cellphone through the WiFi on the boat....

Our needs are simple but i'll run through my setup which worked very well with the e120w. I run 3 cameras in the bilge (1 looking behind the gen, 1 looking forward and 1 looking aft). I have one camera on the bridge that looks aft out of the bridge that keeps an eye on the dinghy while cruising. I have one that covers the lower cockpit and I keep it up all of the time to keep an eye making sure no one is going in and out of the salon while underway. This one is important because I check the others periodically but this one stays up always. So i cycle the 4 cameras on the main mfd (Garmin) but I will keep the cockpit cam on a split screen on the second mfd (Raymarine). If i can get that one camera to work on the Raymarine I would be satisfied. Found a cheap axis M7011 on ebay that will encode the cockpit analog cam and hopefully integrate with the Raymarine. Absolute worst case is i would have to pick up one of the Raymarine cameras but they are costly and not to mention bulky for a 2 megapixel camera.

Ok, I’m officially throwing in the towel with any third part camera on the axiom. Raymarine did a good job at ensuring on their camera works. I’m still not paying for one though. So far all my analog cams work on the garmin so I’ll just live with it.

... Raymarine did a good job at ensuring on their camera works. ...

It's a shame when companies do this in hopes of selling more product, not realizing they would sell more product through happy customers.

So figured I'd report back as I hate to have a piece of tech kick my a$$. Per the forum I posted above i was able to find an ip camera that works with the Axiom 12 running lighthouse 3. Only downside is I had to order it from Amazon UK and it took about 3-4 weeks to get to me, but who cares it works. The HOSAFE 1080P Wireless IP Security Camera did he job. It works so well i even plugged it into my router (non raymarine) Along with the Raymarine and it automatically picked it up. So you could deploy a few of these and connect them to the raymarine via their hs5 switch or your own poe switch.

Do you have a link? Was it just plug and play?
