Just finished up installing a set of 7.7's in the arch. Just so you guys know, they fit. I was cheap and used a jig saw to cut the holes. It was pretty easy using a bit used for metal. Came out almost perfect with no chips. I went with led rings for the look. Here's a couple pics. I didn't get a chance to hear them yet. ( My boat is a DISASTER)

I'm really thinking of adding 2 more 7.7's, but I know some of you would steer me against doing it. The first one I'd like to add is under the helm seat facing the cooler door. That one should be fine. The other that I think would give good sound and a cool look is next to the sub. NOW.. The sub and speakers are infinite-baffles. Here's a quote from JL.... "CCX models have woofers specifically designed for infinite-baffle applications. In plain english, this means that they are designed to operate without an enclosure behind them. The bass response of the speaker will suffer significantly if placed in a small enclosure" There is a lot of open air in that area. I was also told and shown pictures of people who have done it. I'm just thinking for now though.

mnm99 - Nice job. How do the covers on each side at the base of the arch come off?
Just stick a screw driver near the holes that you see and pry it off easy. It has those barb door panel like connectors ,like on cars.

The woofer will ABSOLUTELY negatively impact the mid-bass cone of a speaker placed that close. As that statement from JL notes, placing a baffle or small enclosure behind the speaker, will also impact the speakers mid-bass performance. You will gain the output from the speaker's tweeter, but the mid-bass impact is inarguable.

I'm trying to imagine a scenario where one set of these bad boys in the arch isn't enough volume??? Don't you people talk to your wives whilst underway?? Or....wait....okay, I see what you did there :)

I will never have a kick-a$$ stereo, why spend the money? The Admiral would never let me play it at the volume I would like. LOL

LOL. Well our dock is one of a kind. If you go down to the town and mention our dock, all you hear is "OH you guys"..LOL..In our town we are known for good times and some bad. We like our dock parties..Just last night we had a holiday party with 67 of us there. Santa came , raffles ect...

I'm also looking for great sound. The 7.7's do give out some more mid bass. I'd love to get a pair of 8.8's, but they will break the bank.

Put it in the companion way like the 320's.
You can access that space thru the head cabinet I believe.

On my 320 you can access it through the cabinet above the toilet. Have a look and see if the 340 has the same space behind.

How about under tue the passenger seat? Won't look as cool but should sound good.

Do you think the 7.7s are actually noticeably different than the MX650 6.5"? Since the sub is handling all low frequency and you likely have a high pass x-over on the 7.7s at 80 Hz I would think the frequency response or sound between the two are near identical? Been debating between 6.5 and 7.7 myself.

I think you gain increased output with larger speakers and more watts. Better sound at higher volumes. Sound is very subjective anyway. I can tell you that my 4 mx650's and mx10 sub with a m700/5 amp sounds very satisfying to my ear at half volume. Its hard for me to imagine it sounding any better. louder doesn't mean better sound quality. At some point how much is enough? Maybe if you want to overcome engine and wind noise when cruising. I think I have reached my fulfillment level. Happy JL customer.
