hey guys, i have a 2005 290 sunsport with some ignition related problems....
have not run the boat in a few months but i started the port motor up today with no issues and let it run for a bit. I then went to start the starboard motor and nothing, no beep , no clicks, nada.. batteries were on, ignition keys were on, power at the gauges... usually if i click the emergency start button i can hear the solenoid click but not this time. tried the port motor again and nothing there now.. turned batteries and ignition off to try and reset the system but it still did not work.. swapped around the starter switches but that didnt help, i put them back how they were and nothing changed.. tried to start the port motor again a few mins later and she fired right up.. then i tried the starboard, heard the beep , fuel pump primed but would not turn over and i had no clicking. this has happened before and i switched out one of the battery switches thinking that was the problem but i guess it was not. i would not be surprised at all if she fires right up tomorrow....

any thought of what the culprit could be? batteries are good and connections are clean....

thanks
Rob

Check the position of your shifters. Sometimes the sensors / switches are not in the correct spot (neutral) to allow it to start. Although this probably isn't the problem, slight chance it could be. My port shifter is very picky on being in just the right place before the engine will turn over. A shot is the dark so to speak.

Hey Korkie, thanks for the response .. i thought of that as well and i will try that but that should not interrupt the fuel pump from priming and the ignition system from coming online.. does the starter solenoid have anything to do with the aforementioned?? If it does that may be the culprit because i just had the ignition in the on position and jumped the 2 poles on the starter solenoid and she fired right up and ran until i turned off the ignition switch.

Same situation as with the shifter. Fuel priming has nothing to do with that. Sounds like one of the ghosts we have to chase. Intermittent is the worst. Check your power source that supplies your switches. Maybe something loose there? Since it is happening on both.

so I swapped over the starter solenoid but still no dice, just as I was about to call it a day I held down the starter switch and jiggled the shifter even tho it was in neutral, bingo...….fired right up.... so thanks for reminding me to check that.

as far as just loosing all power intermittently I think maybe the next steps would be the other battery switch and both keyed ignition switches
