Is there not any 500 sundancer owners on here

Thanks gents. My arms are killing me today lol
This is the magic shine sauce. It’s the only product that truly has proven to me to last all season.

Ugh, got the other side done today but need to finish the last 15 ft in each side of the bow. My 6 foot ladder ain’t cutting it. Need to find an 8/10 foot one to finish the job. That will have to be next weekend.

For those with tnt lifts, where is your swim ladder mounted?
Previous owner never mounted it. It’s n my winter project list

Ours is under a hatch cover on the platform. I mounted the pedestal for the grill there as well.

Sorry about three pics. I don't play well with touch sensitive key pad. Why do pics show at 90 degree on here ?

My lift has no cover for swim ladder. Wondering where folks have mounted theirs

Ours is an starboard side top mounted.
The platform will be repainted next month.
New custom made cilinders already installed last month.

question for you guys: when you lower the platform with a weight on it, does your platform goes down even or when the weight is on port side, port side goes faster?

Hello. I put an offer in on a late '93 500 Sundancer(looks like a '94) which was accepted contingent on a visual inspection, survey, mechanical survey, oil analysis & sea trial. Going to look at the boat in heated storage on Sunday afternoon. Anything I should specifically look for during my visual inspection?

I've never owned this type of boat before... always had a flybridge type boat. Started with 30' Sedan Bridge, then had a 45' Motor Yacht then a 48' Sportfish/Convertible. Had a center console but traded that in on our 25' Whaler Walkaround which we're keeping for awhile yet.

Anyway, any input would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Oh yeah, the 500 has Detroit 6V92 engines.

Look for soft spots around hatches
Also water intrusion around engine vents

Thanks! I'll check the obvious and throw my moisture meter on it and my surveyors will check the rest, but is there anything specific to this model I should look for, check or investigate? I don't know anything about Sundancers. They've never been on my radar. I've partied on some friends' and have captained a couple for some customers but I don't have a clue about anything specific to a dancer.

Thanks again!

We have owned ours for 16 plus years, great boat. There are starting to be fresh water tank leaks on a few 500s. The tank needs to be full in order to check. There is a post here somewhere about it. Good luck.

Good luck with the 500, great boat and you will like it.
Many things to discover and many things that good be bad.
When you look to my posts you read a lot of what problems we had but that could be totally different on any other boat.

Moisture meter and search a lot is very good.
We had on several locations problems with the wooden stut on the inner side that holds the rubrail screws. Some were not sealed properly and water came in and rotten the wood and the leaking.

There are several compartments with stringers and foam that has no inspection holes. These compartments are under all the hatches in the floor. Measure good with your moisture meter.

don’t scare if you see spots of oil around the Detroit’s. The brochure leaks oil :). many things to check on engine but your survey guy should know the basics. Listen good to engine sound while running on idle and when shifting.

Be aware of the fresh watertank, it will expand when it’s full and could give cracks. We had luck and had a crack on top that i welded last month. When you own the boat try not to fill more then 3/4.

The sump is not the best sump. Also kitchen sink goes in the sump. Maybe interesting to read my post about that.

The area around navigation lights and windlass are tricky. When we bought our 500 we already saw a problem. At this moment we are fixing this and when it’s ready i will make a tread with what we did to fix it.

Then ofcourse you have to check vacu flush toilets. For sure you have to maintain them with new o rings and duckbills etc.

The steering unit is hydraulic, check when rotate the wheel for accurate responding and check hydraulic steering arm.

try to get a water hose and spray every outside part with water and try to spot leakings.

Check generator and let it run for 10-15 minutes (not just start and after 10sec switch off), checks also the outcome power etc.

check trimtabs. (Port switch operates starboard trimtab and starboard switch operates port trimtab).

When going on plane check, on different speeds, your railing on both sides for vibrations. If so then most likely propellers out of balance.

look in corners on the carpet for spots. Brown spots most likely leakage. Same on ceiling.

if you like coffee, check the machine for complete accessoires, same with the blender behind cookingplate.

when there is a leakage on port side behind switch panel, the water goes to vacuumcleaner under stairs. Check the bottom of the vacuumcleaner to find out. No rust then perfect.

remove 1 of the snap stud on the bottom of the radar (port and starboard side). When water comes out there is a leakage somewhere on radar or other.

I probably forget thousand things but anyway.....

Let us know how survey went.

Just bought a 02 510 with Cummins qsm11, 660 hp. Guy maintained it like I would... any advice on slow, about 10 kt cruising fuel flow... any advice on this boat would be greatly appreciated..

Hey all I am looking for a 90's 480/500, and doing preliminary research. I have a good friend with a 460 and he mentioned to dig into hull construction through the years for these as with the 460's it changed through the years. I cant find much though searching here and on SROC. Are there any resources that really call out key differences between the 91-99 model years in terms of construction etc? thanks everyone

Wade
