It’s time to REOPEN the economy

I’m sorry that guy is like listening to nails on a chalk board... same with his brother... I just can’t do it
I like both of them, but the governor more, and his little brother and his wife are now sick with the virus, how bout a little compassion guys This virus doesn't mater to most of us until a loved one gets it and is sick or maybe dies. Have some compassion guys. It could be me or you tomorrow, but if it's me all will be ok from you guys:eek:

NY is one of the highest taxed states in the Union. With all of that tax money, one would assume that NY could be self sufficient. New Yorkers need to ask themselves "Where is all that money going?"

And under Cuomo's time as governor it's his responsibility to ensure the state has an adequate number of hospital beds, and adequate emergency supplies, including medical supplies. What happened?

This week we heard Cuomo and other governors tell us that the President that he "has no authority" to reopen the country, only they have the authority to reopen their own states. So, on one hand Cuomo is telling the President that, as governor, he is responsible for the affairs of his state New York, while on the other hand Cuomo is demanding the federal government to step in and bail out New York because he has mismanaged it so bad. So which is it?

I imagine members from New York will have opinions and state them about New York's finances, but the problem in this case impacts most if not all states. Since they get their revenues from the economies of their states in various ways, the shutdown measures have dried up those sources, either from direct sources or because they supply things to other places which are no longer buying. At the same time, state expenses have gone up as they respond to the virus either directly or indirectly through payouts like unemployment. Since states, unlike the Federal Government, can't run deficits, they are most all between a rock and a hard place. Some states are worse off than others, for example, states which rely almost entirely on sales tax, exempt groceries and have no income tax. Since state revenues aren't likely to go up any time soon, even with re-start, the states are going to have to cut or curtail lots of services they provide unless they get some relief. I'm sure there is some room for that but probably not to the degree that any state can solve its own problem. The National Governor's Association, chaired by a Republican, has requested that Congress and the President address this issue and provide funding as they consider new stimulus bills.

No comment has said or implied we don’t have compassion... why are you saying that?.... or are you saying we should forgive their hate filled rhetoric because one of them is sick?

It's both. Heads i win, tails you lose.

I like Governor Cuomo, most people here can't stand him because he's a Democrat. However, I think he's done a pretty good job handling a state as NY which was hit the hardest or close to the hardest in our country. Thumbs up Governor Cuomo!! Trump's name calling on anyone that questions him is getting really old. JMO
Cuomo's a clown. He makes a good presentation and whines a lot. He's all over the place. And have forgot that NY is a big state. What happens in NYC isn't happening in Oneonta NY.

And how many governmental layoffs have been announced? All types on non-essential govt. employees are getting paid.

I'd be curious about California and flu-like deaths during the months of December, January and February that were not categorized as the Wuhan virus, because testing wasn't available. I find it hard to believe that CA wasn't an epicenter with all of the airports in CA used as a layover point to and from China. Plus it was the Chinese New Year in January where travel was huge, not including vacationers going to Disneyland and taking in a Lakers game.
I’ll be really surprised if they even separate the data. The government wants as many Covid caused deaths as possible. Or is that just being too cynical?

NY has been a financial train wreck long before this happened. There’s a reason why the population of NY is shrinking, and there is a reason that high net worth individuals are also fleeing the state.

Cuomo is largely responsible for the piss poor financial conditions of his state. So now he wants to use the federal government and have the tax payers from other states clean up his mess.

The citizens of NY need to demand accountability. Cuomo is not a great governor, the voters need to send him packing.

You gotta wonder what type of person votes for these idiot commies in NY, Michigan, Illinois and Kalifornia.

Those voters deserve the hardships from the politicians they voted into office.

Unfortunately in those states it's the urban centers that elect the governors. Again, take NY as an example. If it weren't for NYC and surrounding area, I seriously doubt Cuomo would be governor. Many areas outside of NYC are conservative. Same with California, take away LA and SF and you find a fairly conservative state.

If states adopted a electoral vote system, county by county, then you would see fairer representation of Governors rather than just a couple of areas electing who they want and imposing them on everyone else.

You got it! Whitmer was on a mid-term ballot that including legalizing marijuana for the state. She got the turn out that otherwise she wouldn’t have

For the record, I’m interested in percentages and not trying to push a death narrative.

Growing up there in the 80’s and early 90’s, I just find it interesting that CA isn’t ground zero. Numbers are coming out tho.

I know I’ll be called out, but fraud. Here in MN, our Secretary of State will not release public voter role data to the MN Voters Alliance. In sample voter roles the the MNVA received, they found when averaged out, over 30k voter discrepancies from “Same Day” registration. You can look up MNVA online for more info. This is why the big push from Dems to change voting requirements in these upcoming relief packages.

I really need to put in my replacement gauges, new helm (steering wheel), put a coat of wax, add the news batts and do some general maintenance on the SaraBelle. This is killing me.

Cuomo is the stereotypical Grandstander. He was an unpopular governor before this happened. He is using the grand stage to try to bolster his image and advance his miserable career. He says the President has no power to tell him when to reopen his state. The President announces Governors control when they reopen and then this grandstanding POS has the balls to complain that the decision is dumped in his lap without having taxpayers from across the country paying for his massive unpreparedness. If New York were a country, it would have the 11th-biggest economy, falling between Canada and South Korea. NY had a GDP of 1.732 TRILLION dollars in 2019 but is one of the highest taxed states and nearly bankrupt. This is a common theme among the blue states. Here in the state of Screw Jersey, it is much the same. Governor (Beaver face) Murphy is a lap dog to Cuomo. Cuomo talks, Murphy jumps. Jersey has one of the lowest credit ratings in the US, yet, it one of the larger revenue producing states. Socialism and Communism has never worked and it never will. These Socialist blue states are a prime example of it. Let them stand on their own merits. NY, NJ, and the rest of them should fend for themselves as it relates to their own financial house of cards.

In their enthusiasm for bashing Cuomo (which may all be valid AFAIK), responders are missing the point that the money problem with the states is nationwide and irrespective of Red/Blue orientation. California, which has a $21B nest egg, may turn out to be in the best shape. Florida, which relies on tourism and corporate tax revenue and has reserves of only $1.4B, may be in the worst.

Here's an article on the subject: https://okcfox.com/news/nation-worl...illion-to-repair-catastrophic-economic-damage.

While some seem to think that mass layoffs of government workers would be a good thing, it would also serve to increase unemployment and demand on safety net services at a time they already overstretched and further deepen the economic downturn. Not to mention potential reductions in services that might go as far as police/fire/EMT.

I believe this is an important issue to address to enable reopening. If states and localities don't have the resources to carry out the monitoring and tracing requirements laid on by the Federal government then reopening will either not happen or go badly. "Don't pass the buck without passing the bucks."

I would disagree w this premise. State income tax in California is around 10% yet look at the condition of SF and LA.

Chicago, Detroit, NYC all their states are bust yet have high income tax.

Nobody is migrating to the Blue states.

Florida not only has no income tax but the cost of living is drastically lower. Housing, real estate tax, utilities, consumer prices are all lower.

It’s no coincidence that tax and spend philosophy along w high levels of entitlements have broken the back of these cities/states.

Poor inner cities are just as underserved as always. Poor people are still poor although minority unemployment was at an all time low prior to Rona.

I grew up in Miami graduated college in the early 80’s. Moved to a suburb north of Chicago 18 years ago. I had to spend $100k more for an old colonial house, pay 4-5% in state income taxes, and rebuild my truck suspension twice in that time. Now the governor wants to increase my taxes because of unfunded pension liabilities.

I’m head to Fl last week of April to find a house I’ll have to rent for a year till I sell this land yacht.

I’m not taking it anymore.

We gone.

I agree completely. I sold my house here in NJ because I'm sick of the ridiculous taxes here and policies of this Governor. Sanctuary state, really? Kiss my ass! I also sold 3 other investment properties here. Jersey has gotten their last tax dollar from me. I'm living on my boat for the summer until I can get down to Florida and buy there. If I don't find something right away, I'll rent for the winter like you. There is a reason there are record numbers of exits here in NJ. Residents and businesses that can are leaving here in droves. Last one out, turn out the lights!
