Hi Everyone!

I'm new to the forum! I am the proud new owner of a 1988 390 Express Cruiser with 7.4's. I've got the usual issues as the boat is 100% original at the moment. It won't get on plane, so there's something going on... either that or I don't know what getting up on plane for a 40' E. C. really means... I know what it feels like to get a 300 Sundancer on plane, and would have expected something similar...

I'm delving into the forum for information and I just wanted to introduce myself! My first boat was a 1988 300 Sundancer I acquired in 2012. I loved it, but it is plagued with stringer rot all the way up into the cabin and the cost to repair is still prohibitive (I still have it... but not sure if I'll tackle it ever).

Thanks to everyone for sharing this wealth of information! I keep hearing about Facebook... what's that all about... has everyone moved over there?

The first thing to check is that the hull bottom is very clean. If it's been sitting for a while, it doesn't take much growth to make a noticeable difference. Also check the running gear to see that they are in good condition. Tab use? After that is verified, you can start to look into mechanical issues - could just need a tune-up... could need more.

Facebook? No idea - I do not have an account. Can't help with that one.

Welcome!

Facebook is fine to share with neighbors, friends useless information and what you're up too.
But I would never use it for finding boat specific, model specific, trustworthy advice.
That's what's so great about this group of folks, (you will still get a few odd opinions from time to time of course)

I use Facebook for the photo albums. I do publicly post a lot of my boat repairs and upgrades there.
But everything else I have locked down to "Friends only" - it's a jungle out there be careful...

Oh, and I first got Facebook to keep track of my teenage daughter online, "the first time you block dad you lose the phone, it's my phone."
Funny now she's 26 and it's still my phone...

Now THATS funny, i just got my first smart phone last week. Daughter got tired of my 12 year old flip-fone. so she bought me one, so technically, it's HER phone.

Basically ditched FB years ago. Still have an account to occasionally stay in touch with distant relatives and friends but use CSR for any socializing and friendly political discourse, I don't need to hear about how someone I don't even know is doing with their colon cleansing routine!
Carpe Diem

I'm not an FB user for those reasons... life is too cool to be spending it with your face buried in your phone, looking at what others are doing with theirs!
