keel blocking

Here's a photo of my 400 blocked. It's hard to see but it looks like 3 sets of blocks along the keel and then 3 stands along either side. 9 total points of support.

Those blocks look really small to me, but if it is on solid concrete floor its probably OK. I am stored outside blocked. Our marina lot is gravel and I expect it shifts over winter. The marina uses constructed block bases that are 2x4 grids maybe 2.5 ft square and topped with large blocks like yours that are about 2.5 ft long. Then they use plywood shims to level it out. My 330 has three block bases plus 4 stands, very similar to yours to prevent tipping.

I certainly can see the benefit of using 'blocking' for boat storage. Lots easier than storing, handling, keeping track of which cradle for which boat. My boat is on blocks too.

If SR says supporting it at the two sling lift locations is sufficient....is it? Do we just use 4-5 blocking locations because we think more is better, or is it really necessary?

Suggest you go back and re-read my post on keel blocks.......for a 40ft. boat, keel blocks should be positioned on each sling mark, one at the transom and near the bow where the keel begins to curve up.

Nobody said anything about 2 sets of blocks being sufficient on a 40ft. boat.

Now I understand.......

I’ve only seen 2 factory cradles, one was at the the Knoxville factory used to hold 340da’s while work was being finished off the production line, the other was for a 97 370DA, ordered from Sea Ray with a new diesel 370. The factory cradles are cut and routed to perfectly fit the hull continuously from chine to chine and are made of several plywood of marine plywood.

The question posted here asked about storing on blocks and stands, not a cradle. Blocks support only the flat part of the keel which transfers the supporting job to the structure of the hull. The S. R. cradles do support the hull from chine to chine, not just the keel.
