I recently switched from a sailboat to a power boat last fall. Now that I do not have to worry about the deep draft and tall mast, I am doing more trips on the bay. Is Kent Narrows navigable with a 3.5' draft? Any issues I should be aware of going through the channel / under the bridge? Per the charts it looks doable. Looking for short cut to St. Michaels.

Cheers,
DS

I kept a boat there for years with a 3.5 draft. Never a problem. Just watch the North channel if the current is running. It can push you out of the channel if you aren't paying attention.

I am in Safe Harbor, 4' draft, no worries for the most part. Don't take off too soon leaving the south channel to St. Michaels either, when the tide is out you'll be dragging the channel in one spot. Also do not cut the dog leg going in to st. Michaels either( a lot do), across from the Wye river. Follow the bouy's/markers and your fine.

EDIT: To St. Michaels, yes under the bridge, very doable. I use either side of the center due to traffic and a little more room to pass through.

Make sure you stop at the Narrows. Harris crab house or under the bridge to Fisherman's Crab deck

Sounds like so many great places to stop that you may loose the time you are trying to make up.

@villain style This summer we are making a trip to Cape May. On the way back home, I was considering running from Cape May to Safe Harbor Narrows Point. Does that seem a bit ambitious?

I've never been to Cape May but you are probably looking at about 2 hours run from C&D Canal on Chesapeake Bay side to Narrows Point. Looks like it might be a 5 hour trip overall....

The times posted above are about right but watch the weather/wind and tides.
They call it "The Helaware Bay" for a reason.

+1 to Harris, we stopped in there after doing our sea trial/survey 5 years ago out of Knot 10/Castle Harbor Marina, and it was awesome!

I'm looking forward to exploring the Chesapeake Bay this summer. We are on the C&D Canal and although currently without a boat, we are hoping to resolve that by the time the season starts.

Our usual destination is the Bohemia River followed by a stop at The Chesapeake Inn if we can find a slip for dinner.
