I’m getting an intermittent squelching noise on our genny this season. I can’t really tell where it’s coming from. The Genny runs fine however the noise wasn’t there before. It’s not very loud but it is noticeable. Has anyone run into this? Also could it be a sign of a failing water pump? The noise is present with or without load.

Bump, seems to be a lot of gen questions this season.

I just lost the water pump on my Westerbeke. Gave no warning, heard a little chirping on start-up and BAM, smoke filled the engine compartment. The water pump seized and the belt was just dragging across the pulley.

I'd pull the belt and see if you feel any resistance from the water pump pulley while spinning it.

Your problem could be as simple as a loose belt or something more serious. When asking a question please include specific information about make model and year. You will get much more reliable feedback if you do.

My bad, didn't realize i left out that info. Was in the ER when i sent it. Its a Kohler 5E . However it seems its a bad raw water pump. I've ordered a replacement and will swap it out tomorrow.
