I sprung a leak in my raw water pump. It took a while to identify it. I noted some water under the cushion in the aft cabin. I thought it was the AC pan overflowing as the sump was clogged with that orange sludge. I cleaned it out. Still water under the cushion. I also noted a salt build-up on my battery charger. I cleaned it off a few times and could not see how it got there. It kept on showing up. My raw water pump had some rust stains on it. Then one day I was going to replace my impeller. I reassembled everything and started the generator. Lots of dripping under the pump. I removed the cover and checked to make sure the gasket was seated. It was. I reassembled and started the pump. Still dripping. I replaced the o-ring. Still dripping. I was about to reorder a new cover plate when I noted a needle like spray coming out of the back side of the pump, landing on the charger. I realized the leak was coming from the other side of the pump, not the cover plate. There is a rebuild kit or I can buy a new pump. Anyone have experience rebuilding or replacing the raw water pump on a Kohler 5E?

If casting is OK (not cracked) then rebuild should be OK unless the kit is almost as expensive as the whole unit.

+1 on the replacing, as ours was 16 years old. I just did an internet search for our Sherwood pump. Took the old one apart an found more problems just waiting to happen!

Thanks for the info....I'll probably do that as well....appreciate the help.

From our Trawler days back up in Ct., we loved going to Watch Hill on
fire Island. Did they ever open the pizza shop there?
